POWA OAN.fraide WM, • DAY! 009Kailibil tit/ SIN GENTLEMEN'S CLUB ,NEWS ITEMS One day last week I decided on a, fish dinner. Not the scavenger cod or the hind you buy in a store but one taken from the cool waters in Paradise Valley. I hunted' up my rope line and big hook Tommy Garnies made me and went direct to where the big ones are, and only I know where, For years the poachers from town have trespassed on me but they have never discover- ed • the subterranean channel which runs underground, from the Arctic ocean, I presume. It, was my lucky day. When I was looking for a suitable worm I found a flask of swamp whisk ey, probably sixty UL seventy years old. Swamp liquor is as pure as the driven snow, as clear as spring water and not a head- ache or a hicough in a hogshead: I took a fair sample and was at peace with the world. Never was the sky so blue, Those cedars, with the wind blowing so gently, sang a lullaby and the water in the creek played the rippling water jig. When ..I went to take the worm from the old salmon can I poured a shot of liquor in to see what would. happen. The Temperance people say it will kill- a worm, but: not this one. He stood on his, head. and wiggled his tail, or maybe it was vice versa. Anyway, I didn't have the nerve to thread him on the hook. I tied him on with a shoe lace, one end' of him. Ten seconds after I made my cast that rope started going turougn my hand like a windlass, bat I manag ed to snub it round a tree. Well I pulled out one of them real big miles an hour, wanting, of count, funny so I examined him care- fully. To my surprise, that fish worm was wrapped around his throat, tight as a fiddle string and was saying, you dirty - - next time you try to bite me choke you to death. Well, I got back to my good panel and figured I better get rid of the balance of the bottle. I was just bringing it to my lips when L looked and there was that durn worm crawling along about ten miles an hour, wanting, of course, another drink. I divided it be- tween us and when I left he was standing on his tail and wagging, his head, or maybe vice, versa. Them scaly suckers at the Sinner's Club won't believe my story. They don't believe a whale swallowed Jonah. I do, after all, Jonah didn't swallow the Whale. Well, catching 'a fish is no good unless you know how to. ,cook it, Salmon and trout must , be fried in butter. Cod, mackeral, and halibut, in pork drippings and herring alway boiled, red. pepper, never black. I had a nice dinner, please, excuse me, I have to have a drink, of water. Truthfully Yours T. K. F.
