the Department of. Labour 41 re-
sponse to tie recommendations
already in short supply and ..the
demand Tor them can be expected
to grow considerably as Ont-
ario's industrial economy con,
Unties to advance at an Increas-
ingly accelerated pace. An active
apprenticeship programme has
been In operation for years. This
program is ping to be extended
to -meet ..today's ..technological
changes ..and .,challenges .. more
adequately. In this connection the
movernment ,intends ..to ..extend
compulsory _certification ..to the
'fallowing.. .,additional.. ...trades:
ref riger a t4on and air condition-
ing, electrical, including domestic,
commercial and industrial pltimb-
ing, steam fitting, Sheet metal,
,and -watch repair, Apprentice-
ship training programs have been
in existence for a number of
years in the case of all these
trades • except watch repairs
-which is covered under the new,
programme.

Anyone practising any one of
these trades at the time
the new system, goea into oper-
ation, will have two years to
obtain his certificate of qualifi-
I
cation. Certificates will be grant-
ed automatically to those who
are able to show proof of exper-
ience in the trade for a period,
equalling or exceeding the
apprenticeship period prescribed 1
for that particular trade. Anyone
unable to present such proof will
be requit-',d to undertake an exam-
ination to establish his prone-
iency in the trade and qualify
for certification. Is this way, with
experience and knowledge veil-
;fled either by proof of time or by
testing, everyone already engaged
in the trades concerned will be
able to obtain his certificate of
qualification. In the case of new-
comers to these trades all will be
'required to go through the estab-
*nishment apprenticeship , train-
ing programme for their trade,
attending a provincial institute
of trades for the prescribed 1
courses. -
This past week a great deal of
time was spent discussing censer-,
vation and its effect On water
levels in the province. Many of
these remarks were prompted by
Bill 19. An act to amend the De-
patment of Energy Resources Act
which changes the name from.
the Department of Illiiergy Re-
sources to DepartMent of Energy
and ReSourceS Management',
This is designed to co-ordinate
the work of all the various bodies,
such as the ConserVation Auth-
orities, Ontario Water Resoui•ces
Clominisnion and the Department
of Agrieulture through the ARDA
program.

feels that if the conservation
measures are developed to the
point that most, if not all rain-
fall is conserved, supplies would

conservation methods to catch and

or even 30 years if past exper-
ience is any indication.
The Minister of Education, Mr.
Davis, indicated that in all Prob-
ability the results of grade thir-
teen examinations will be later in
being released this year as com
pared to last year. A committee,
will study the entire subject or
grade thirteen exanimations and
problems involved with marking
them.
