This address, in part, was
presented by the Kansas Farmer
at the International Plowing
Match in pool, County, auspices
Huron Co, Plowmen's Associa.tion.
Huron County is known for its
I/eerg 'Cattle, 'Hogs, beautiful
horses and fast women. 1 apeli-
•gize, I, of Sourae, meant fast ,
horses and beautifel women
few years ago. Huron took first
prize for a •calf at the ONE, but
le you really want to see lovely
calves I suggest you go to Bay-
field or Grand Bend some Sun-
day in July.
The first settlers had a rugged
time as the tea and whiskey had
to be carried Un. by pack. They
also had to contend with Indians
'and wolves. We had the smart-
est wolves in the world, It was
only a waste of time to climb a
!tree when attacked by these
four legged variety because they
worked in Go-operation with the,
'beavers, who would cut the tree
down. Our cats are still very in-
telligent. My neighbour got a.
;half grown kitten last summer
that de4ded under the thester-
'field would be a good place for
a toilet. Well, the lady would'
grab the cat by the neck and
threw it out the window. In three
days that cat would use the
toilet and then. Jump out the
.window. Our birds, are also very
beautiful and our parrots have
quite a vocabulary. An old lady
tin. Goderieh, an aunt of mine,
had a canary and a parrot. One
real hot day she put the two
ds n t e ba broom, the cool-
est place she could think of. She
forgot them until she was retir-
ing that night. She was just
getting into the tun ror a cool
bath when the zanary said "peep,
peep". The, parrot said "You. can
peep if you like,. I'm having a
darn good look." We also have the
most wenderful ti.pecided trout.,
These trout are really .4()t Speck-
led but are colored like the
d ifferent Tartan k Plaids. Some
some have the McDonald plaid,
-307710 the Ferguson, seine the.
McKenzie, every clan represented
except the Ciampbells. No fish
will represent the tribe of un-
natural Scotch except a feW,
