Mrs. Edna Hackwell open- ed the meeting. Verna Thom- as was at the piano. Minu tes of the. May meeting were read by Secretary Doris Hooper. The new officers were introduced by Mrs. Hackwell after which Mrs. Mel Jacklin the new president took the chair. The treasurer's report was given by Laura Lucas. Memberships were renew- ed by paying one dollar fees and another one to become a star member. The group would like to see more people become members and enjoy the fellowship with one an- other. You will be more than welcome. A committee was named to draw up the program for the new term. The fall rally will be held at Holmesville, Oct- b er 14. The members voted to have a Christmas dinner in December with the legion ladies catering. A reading by Mrs. Dave Watson was fol- lowed by some most interest- ing pictures shown by Jean Bewley on their trip to the Netherlands. She was presented with a gift by Mrs. Watson. Euchre followed, winners as follows high lady - Ida Gordon, low lady - Sadie 1981 -'" McDonald, high gent. Ed. Martin, low gent - Dave Watson, Special Mel Jacklin. Walton WI to sponsor quilt course The Walton Women's In- stitute are sponsoring the Quilt Course this fall put on by the Home Economics Branch of the Ontario Minis- try of Agriculture and Food. Any one wanting to take this approach to the lovely old art of quilting are to let either Albe0Hudie or Annie Reid know before Octob er 6 as they will be attending the two-day leadership workshop in Blyth Oct. 6 -7. Brussels and District Hor- ticultural Society met in the library on Monday evening, Sept. 16. The executive met 20 minutes prior to the regular meeting. It was deci- ded to purchase top soil for the flower beds in the Horti- culture park. The work the Leo's have done this summer was discussed. At the regular meeting awards for the rose and flower show were discussed. It was decided to purchase plaques. The date for our August flower show and supper will be Aug. 18, 1982 from 4-7. It was decided to have new signs made for the town beds as our old ones have disappeared... . Alfred Knight answered questions about the pruning of shrubs.
