Vets honoured
after WW 2

Recently returned overseas
veterans were tendered a
banquet served at the Ameri-
can Hotel under the auspices
of the local branch of the
Canadian legion on Tuesday
night of this week. Seventy-
seven were in attendance to
enjoy the memorable occa-
sion. L.E. Cardiff, M.P.: R.B.
Cousins, reeve of Brussels,
council members and local
clergy were also invited to
be present.
L.E. Cardiff as Master of
Ceremonies called on L.W.
Eckmier to conduct commun-
ity singing. "0 Canada" was
sung. Prayer was offered by
Rev. H.C. Wilson and silent
prayer was observed in tri-
bute to those who did not
come back. At file conclusion
of the supper various men,
including R.B. Cousins, Rev.
H.C. Wilson, Rev. G.A.
Milne, Dr. C.A. Myers and
E.D. Bell gave brief address-
es. W. Armstrong, president
of Wingham legion substitut-
ing for Zone Commander
Miller of Goderich was guest
speaker and delivered an
appropriate address to the
returned servicemen. During
Mr. Amrstrong's talk he
presented M. Wineberg with
a past president's emblem.
Mr. Wineberg then pre-
sented all the returned men,
who had not already received
one, with a leather wallet
conveying the compliments of
the Arcade store. E. D. Bell
on behalf of all the recipients
expressed their thanks for the
gifts. Community singing in-
terspersed the speaking. In
his closing remarks Mr. L.E.
'Cardiff requested the pre-
' sence of Mr. and Mrs. J.
Baker who were then tender-
ed a vote of thanks and
appreciation for the splendid
banquet served. "For They
are Jolly Good Fellows was
sung. The banquet was con-
cluded with the national an-
them.
At the beginning of the war
there were twelve members
of the Brussels Branch No.
218 of the Canadian legion.
There is now an enrollment of
one hundred members.

RIBBON CUTTING TO OPEN NEW LEGION — On June 12, 1965, Roy
Thuell, a charter and life member and past Secretary-Treasurer of the
Brussels Legion, Provincial Legion President Gord Wakefield and Bill
Stiles, a life and charter member and a past president of the Brussels
Legion cut the ribbon to open the new Brussels Legion hall.

ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION
The Corporation of the Village of Brussels wishes to Congratulate
the Royal Canadian Legion on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the forming
of their Branch 218. Many, many acts and deeds for the village residents have been
gratefully received, even though some have been thought to have gone unnoticed.
The children, and' adults alike all say Thank You to the Legion. Keep up the good work.
