The annual meeting of the Howick Junior Women's Institute was held in Howick Central School, Mary Hall read the report of the nominating committee. Martin of Palmerston received into the Gorrie United Church on Mother's Day by baptism, Adam Steven, the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Steven Edgar and Michael Lorne, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Bell. The flowers on the choir rail were in memory of Mrs. Greta Ward. The Howick Lions Club recently donated $1,000.00 to the Gorrie Parks Board to assist with renovations to the ball park in the community. During a Lions meeting, President Wesley Ball Jr. explained the money was raised through the clubt recent Bowlathon as well as other projects. Bill Doig, chairman of the Parks Board, said the board had just completed fencing and a new backstop at the ball park, and now is looking at upgrading the field, im- proving seating, etc. We have big plans, he told the Lions.
