Grey township in 1950. For 3
days I stood in the Docket
before a judge, and a bevy of
lawyers, upholding my end
of the assessment of Grey
township and won, which
was in my 'estimation a very
good equalization assess-
ment, much better than
anything tried since, or be.
fore 1949. So naturally the
reeve and deputy and clerk,
who were not in favor of this
new assessment, in 1951
hired a new,r assessor. So a
Frank Harrison took the job
,and one year was enough for
him. He brought the books
back to the clerk's office and
said, "no more, I'm done
with this, no more assessing
for me." This was the time
the clerk Fear took sick and
was hospitalized, so Mrs.,
Cardiff, who had been work-
ing in the office from time to
time, was installed as clerk.
Mr. Fear got quite a bit
better and the council gave
him the assessor job from
1952.
So in 1953 a new council
was elected for Grey town-
ship and I was again chosen
as assessor and did the jot
until 1968, when D'Arcy
McKeough took over.
Appeals were heard before
three different judges while I
was assessing—Costello, Fin-
gland, and Hetherington. I

GUEST SPEAKER
Yvonne Ballagh was
course at the University of
Toronto to train for the
position of Medical Officer of
Health.
Dr. Lynch has looked into
the possibility of the Huron
Health Unit being aligned
with the University of West-
ern Ontario Medical Faculty
for Medical Officer Health
Trainees. The faculty of
Medicine appears interested
in the suggestion that Huron
Health Unit be an ideal place
for Medical Officer of Health
training which would allow
Dr. Cieslar to do his MOH
training with the Huron
Health Unit.
Dr. Lynch came to Canada
from Ireland in 1972 and
practiced with Dr. Cieslar at
the Church Street' Clinic. In
1977 Dr. Lynch was appoint-
ed MOH for the county. He
will begin his position in
Sudbury June 1.
Dr. Cieslar left the clinic in
1977 for a four month stint
with the flying doctor service
in Australia and returned to
Goderich in the spring of
1978 where he has had a
mainly industrial practice
with Dominion Roads.

cope with it and told us how
we should help the disabled
in our community.
Mrs. G. Craig thanked
everyone who helped during
the service.
Doris McKinley favoured
with several selections on her
marimba.
The closing hymn, Jesus is
the Man Who Cares for
Others, preceded the bene-
diction by Rev. Charles A.
Swan.

Farming in Grey
was commended by each one
for my good and reasonable,
bookkeeping and was up held
on my work in each case.
I also checked gravel
(crushed), for Grey township
for nine years. One year the
road superintendent quit,
and I had to act as super-
intendent as well as checker
for over two weeks until a
new superintendent was in-
stalled. After 1968, I was
councillor for four years in
Grey township. Then a year
or two later I was hired as
dog enumerator until 1979,
my leg got so sore, that
walking was out, so I ended
up in the hospital in Seaforth
in April, 1979, to get built up
for an amputation. I had my
left leg off right above the
knee in Stratford, then
back to Seaforth hospital to
recuperate until August then
home for a couple of months,
then to London Westminster
"Victoria" for a fitting of a
new artificial leg.
Got home a month' before
Christmas and am living
most of the time in a
wheelchair. So ends an era of
serving and working in and
for The Township of Grey.
P.S. Not counting the
many hours spet. • election.
eering from 1926 on, and
being Poll clerk for 20 years
at Municipal elections, I
enjoyed every moment.
