Lois McCall and Shirley Wheeler recently returned home from a trip to Hartford, Connecticut where they at- tended the World Figure Skating Championships. Lois had a list of some of the marks for Canadian figure skaters Tracey Wain- man and Brian Orser. In her five minute performance Tracey got marks of 5.3, 5.4, 5.4. 5.6, 5.4, 5.2, 5.2, 5.3, and 5.3 for her technical merit, her marks for artistic impression were 5.2, 5.4, 5.2, 5.6, 5.4, .5.3, 5.3, 5.3, and 5.3. In his performance, Brian Orser received marks of 5.7, 5.8, 5.8, 5.8, 5.8, 5.8, 5.8, 5.8, and 5.8, for OMRA board of Directors who brought greetings from OMRA. Jim Stone of Durharh thanked Walkerton for its hospitality. On March 9, winners of a mixed curling were the teams of Gordon Stephen.. son, Howard Hackwell, Ross Veitch, Dan Pearson, Ken Bray, Ernie Lewington, Bob Alexander, Jim Patterson, Stewart Steiss. There was a tie between the teams of Dave Wheeler and Max Old- field. This completed the February draw. In the overall winners for the February draw, Ernie Lewington's team came first with 52 points. Pauline Pat- terson was the vice with Tom Warwick second and Hank Haasnoot as'the lead. technical merit and for artist- ic impression 5.8, 5.5, 5.6„ 5.5, 5.5, 5.6, 5.7, 5.7, and 5.6. The competitions took place from March 3 till March 8. Second prize went to the team of Ross Veitch with 50 points. Mary Huether was vice, Bruce Cox was second and Sheila Bauer was the lead. Brad Speiran's team won third prize with 46 1/2 points. Joyce Alexander was the vice, Brian Warwich second and Dennie Newby was the lead. Stewart Steiss's team came fourth with 44 points. Jean Oldfield was the vice; Pam Clarkson was second and Dave Baynton- lead. The last game played was between Brad and Stewart and if Brad had won his team would have come in first place. This would have been quite an accomplishment since Brad hasn't skipped that long. In the. ladies afternoon curling on March 10, winners were the teams of Fran Bremner and Joyce Alexan- der. There was a tie between Karen Uhler and Yvonne Knight's teams. The ladies are planning a fun day and annual meeting on March 30. starting with a pot-luck din- ner at 12. A mixed curling jitney was held in Monkton on March 8 and a team skipped by Orval Bauer of Brussels won first prize. Elaine Wicke was the vice, Sheila Bauer was se- cond and Ruth Bauer was the lead, Donna Bauer of Brus- sels who also went to the jitney was on the second prize- winning team skinned by Glen Rathwell. A mixed curling jitney is to be held in Brussels on March 23. Since this is in the March break from school, it will allow the junior cutlers to participate, As a wind-up to the curling season the annual meeting, banquet and dance for all the curlers will be held on April 4. The annual Co nference of the Lake Huron Zone of the Ontario Municipal Recrea- tion Associaton held March 7 in Walkerton brought to- gether 85 delegates from 26 communities to consider the theme, "Building a Better Base" as it relates to recrea- tion within the local' com- munity. Don Reid, District Supervisor, Ministry of Cul- ture and Recreation; de- veloped this theme in the keynote address, stressing looking back to planning for both short and long term and striving for people involve- ment.
