Q. How do I apply for the Child
Tax Credit?
A. First you must file an income
tax return. The "basic"
steps in the Tax Guide ac,
companying your return will
probably provide all the in-
formation you will need to
complete your income tax re-
turn, Be sure to carefully
complete the Identification
Area on page I and sign your
return.
Next, complete Schedule 10,
"Child Tax Credit," and
enter all the information re-
quested. Transfer the
amount of your credit to your
income tax return.
When applying for the Child
Tax Credit, include a copy of
your TFA I information slip
(Statement of Family Allo-
wances) with your tax return
and Schedule 10. For more
information on claiming the
Child Tax Credit, check your
Guide.
•
Q, I am married with a wife and
two children, one 7 and the
other 18. My wilt and chil-
dren did not earn any income
last year, What exemptions
am I entitled to claim?
A. Everyone is entitled to the
basic personal exemption of
$2,890. You may also claim
a married exemption of
$2,530, a $990 exemption
for your 18-year-old and a
$540 exemption for your
7-year-old.
When making your claim be
sure to give all the informa-
tion requested on your in-
come tax return, For more
details, check your 1980 Tax
Guide.
•
Q. My wife has no income.
Why canT I claim the Child
Tax Credit for her?
A. If your wife received the
Family Allowance for your
eligible child(ren), then she
is the one who claims the
Child Tax Credit. Under cer-
tain circumstances the father
may be entitled to receive the
Family Allowance and there-
fore he would claim the cre-
dit. For more information,
check your Guide, •
Q, I earned $9,500 last year.
What amount may I claim as
my "employment expense
deduction?"
A. Your employment expense
deduction is equal to 3 per
cent of your wage and salary
income up to a maximum of
$500. In your case you may
claim $285.
•
Q. My wife claims the Child
Tax Credit; does she have to
report the Family Allowance
paid to her in the past year?
A. The person who claims a
personal exemption for the
child is the one who must re-
port the Family Allowance.
Thus, your wife may claim
the Child Tax Credit and you
may claim a personal exemp-
tion for your dependent child
provided you report the
Family Allowance.

Tories pick Harron
Continued from page 1
started.
Three ballots were required to determine
a winner. Mr. Emerson was eliminated after
the first ballot and Mr. Ackert after the
so. and ballot. Mr. Harron defeated Mr.
Snobellen with 312 votes out of 559 votes
cast.
Mr. Harron told an enthusias. tic and
receptive gathering that Huron-Bruce was
not a Liberal riding but a Murray Gaunt
riding. He stressed the importance of the
residents of Huron-Bruce electing a member
to parliament who would be on the majority
side of the house. He also stated that good
planning is needed in the riding to ensure
future industrial and agricultural develop-
ment.
He reiterated his commitment to move
into the riding if elected. He said he is "not
afraid of hard work and cold weather", and
promised to win the riding back for his party.
The riding has been represented by
Liberal Murray Gaunt for 181/2 years. Prior
to that the seat was held by Conservative
John Hanna until his death.

Guest speaker Larry Grossman, minister
of industry and tourism under the Davis
government, dismissed the opposition
Liberal party as "irrelevant", and
commented on NDP leader Michael
Cassidy's "reverse Moses routine" in which
he leads his party back into the
wilderness.
He also criticized the "negativism" of
Liberal leader Stuart Smith and made
reference to Smith's labelling of Ontario's
economy as "crummy". Mr. Gross man told
his audience that a PC government under
Premier William Davis is dedicated to
building Ontario and that the Huron-Bruce
area is one with great potential. He said that
he sees the riding's strong industrial and
agricultural base as one with tremendous
spin-off opportunities for the future.
The Huron-Bruce PC Association also
selected its officers for 1981 at the meeting.
Barry Schmidt of Kincardine is the new
president and Barb Fisher also of Kin-
cardine, is the new vice-president. Harry
