Flood control to cost $4351000

A proposal for downStream
channel improvement in 1981
as part of the Listowel Flood
Control PrOgram will cost
approximately $435,000

ateended the generarmeet-
ing held in Brussels on
Wednesday:
The first phase of 760 feet
which is from the Railway
bridge to the upstream end
of the Spinrite factory is to
cost $210,000; the second 560
foot phase from the Spinrite
factory to the Elina Street
bridge is to cost $125,000 and
the third phase of 280 feet is
from the Elma Street bridge
to the outlet of the conduit
and is to cost $100,000.
The Ministry of Natural
Resource's share of the cost
of this project will be 85 per
cent while the town of
Listowel will pay 15 per cent.
Members of the Authority
passed a motion that the
MVCA introduce this pro-
gram of river channel im-
provement in Listowel at a
cost of $435,000 plus engin-
eering fees, that. the staff
update a previous brief on
the project and submit it to
the Ministry of Natural
Resources. This will go into
the Authority's special pro-
jects budget as well as the
Regional budget.
The Listowel Flood Plain
Mapping program has now
been implemented and the
Authority 'is required to
,comment on all building
applications,
Municipalities will experi-
ence an increase of approxi-
mately 71/2 per cent over last
year's levy to the, MVCA,
chairman Dave Gower told
the :fleeting when the. 1981
preliminary budget was pre-
sented, at the Meeting. He
remarked that the figures, in
the prelinfinary budget are
likely ,to , change on -the
finalized report which will be•
presented at the annual
meeting in. February.
The Port Albert Erosion
Control study is to be com-
pleted in 1980 at an estimat-
ed total cost of less than
$8,000, $7,000 •less than the
budget estimate.
Several studies were' de-
layed with the result that
$22,300 has been reallocated
to the capital 'projects in the
Water and Related Land
Management Program.
The Turnberry Floodplam.
Acquisition. Program was, re-,
activated during-the year at
the request of the municipal-
ity and, a reallocation made to
allow the purchase of four
