HFA oY In recent years the Huron County Federation of Agri- culture has spearheaded efforts to increase awareness of the problems associated with the absentee ownership of Ontario farm land. A 1979 RDOP Study for the Fedreation found highest foreign ownership in AShiteld Township, 2,123 ac*S,,.and Howick Township, tqOpres. Recent • purchases in Colborne and other townships may add more to the list. Purchases tend to be large holdings of high quality farm land. The Federation is concerned about the impact these untenanted holding& will have on rural community. The Federation wants to ' do more than study the . problem. In the past year foreign purchasing appears to have accelerated. At their September Regional Meeting , the Huron County Federation' of Agriculture called for the resignation of Ontario's minister of Agriculture, Lorne Henderson, unless he took action to deal with the problem. Choice Cows: 56:00 to 59.00 with sales to 62.50; Good Cows: 53.00 to 56.00; Canners & Cutters: 49.00 to 53.00. 30 to 40 lb. pigs traded to a high of 38.00; 40 to 50 lb. pigs to a high of 39.75; 50 to 60 lb. pigs to a high of 47.25; 60 to 70 lb. pigs to a high of 50.50; 70 to 80 lb. pigs to a high of 57.50. Melville Ladies Aid has flower contest Melville Ladies Aid met at the home of Ethel Long with seven members answer- ing the roll call with a poem or reading on Thanksgiving. The scripture was read by Mrs. Long and Elsie Evans led in prayer. The minutes were read by Ruby Steiss and the financial report was given by Berva Dennis and the sunshine report by Ethel Long. Mrs. Elsie Evans gave a reading on "Did you ever feel alone in an open field." The collection was taken by Mrs. Dennis and given to Mrs, Long for the sunshine fund. Mrs. Dennis gave a flower contest that was prepared by Mrs. Matheson.
