While more than 160 ex-
hibitors are busy putting the
finishing touches on displays
for the upcoming Western.
Fair Farm Show, nineteen
young ladies are looking
forward to the event with a
mixture of excitement and
nervousness,
The girls, ranging from 16 i
to 19 years old, are, compet-
ing for the title of 1980. Farm
Show Princess. Last year's
princess, Kim Eberly of R.R.
2, Parkhill will turn, over her

Public School speaking con-
test held on Wednesday at
the school included Gary
Martin of Grade 4, Karla
King of Grade 5 with runner-
up Ruth Ann Watts, and
Karen Knight of Grade 6 who
was also the overall winner
picked to go to the Legion's
public speaking contest
Melinda Hamilton was the
Grade 7 winner and Brenda
Richmond the Grade 8 and
overall winner picked to gO
on to the Legion public
speaking contest.

school were: Mrs. Jean Kirk-

Sinclair, an English and
Geography teacher at the
F.E. ,Madill Secondary
School.

PUBLIC SPEAKING WINNERS Karla King of
Brussels Public School won in the Junior class '
and Andrea Haasnoot of Grey Central School in
Ethel won in the Senior class when the Brussels '
Legion held speaking competitions last week.
Judges for the contest were Bruce McCall, Rev.
Eric Le Drew and Wendell Richards. Other
prize winners in the junior class were in order of
placing; Ruth Ann Watts of Brussels Public;
Leanne Armstrong of G rey Central and David
Lamont of Grey Central. Other winners in the
seniors' class were: Brenda Richmond of
Brussels Public; Melinda Hamilton Of Grey
Central and Brenda Baker, of Grey Central.
