The Brussels Post, 1979-12-19, Page 23Rebekahs have draws THE BRUSSELS POST, DECEMBER 19, 1979 — 23 PRESENTS FOR EVERYONE—This little Santa Claus gave out presents' to some of the people involved int he Kindergarten Puppies presentation at the Brussels Public School's Christmas Concert on Tuesday night. (Brussels Post Photo) CWL, husbands enjoy party and Art Jones. Sixteen members, their husbands, and eleven guests were pres- ent. Special guests were our parish-sponsored refugee family. 0 After an evening of games, readings, , Christmas carols and good conversation, Santa Claus appeared with gifts for all, and then a delicious buffet lunch was served. Special thanks to all who made our annual bazaar such as success. Congratulations to the winners of our draw: first prize: Carol Collins, Walton; second prize: Mary Lazenby, Brussels, third prize Ruth Wilson, Brussels. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year MorningStar Rebekah. Lodge held the Christmas meeting in the Lodge Hall with approximately 40 mem- bers present. I The Noble Grand, Janet McCutcheon, was in charge of the opening exercises and business. It was announced that the Oddfellow Rebekah float entered in Santa Claus Majestic WI has annual pot luck party After singing the Institute grace, members and guests 'of the Majestic Women's Institute enjoyed their annual pot luck lunch on Wednesday, December 12. The meeting room was decorated for the Christmas 'season. Each table had a 'Christmas cover and lighted candle. Following lunch, president 'Dorothy Steffler, welcomed all and read a Christmas poem. The ode was sung followed by Mary Stewart I collect. Minutes of the! October and November meetings were read and ' approved. Correspondence was read. Doris McCall led in , a memorial to Jennie Strachan. Marie McTaggart, reported on the 39th annual , Guelph area convention held at Kitchener in October. The theme of the convention was "I am a Canadian." The treasurer's report was given. The Christmas boxes will be packed, December 17. Wilma Hemingway led in Carol. sing. The indoor ;gardening course was discussed.. Anyone interested is to contact, Ila McLarty or Wilma Hemingway by December 22. Mrs. Van Vliet favoured with two solos. A reading on what Christmas means, was given by Kate Wilson. The roll called was answered with a verse from a Christmas card. The Queen was sung and Christmas gifts were exchanged. Parade won third prize, Each member revealed her 1979 secret sister and presented her with a Christmas gift. The 1980 secret sisters and brothers were also chosen. After closing Lodge, the Social Committee convened by Mary Lowe presented a Christmas program with Jean Bridge announcing the numbers, carol singing, readings, plays and the first appearance of the "Grass hoppers". Mrs. Lillian King received a standing ovation for her rendition of "The Chimes." She was also ac- companist for the carol sing- ing. After the enjoyable pro- gram there was a gift ex- change among the members., The Christmas Draw was held for articles donated by some of the members. 1st afghan - Baillie Parrot, ,Blyth; 2nd "Mr, and Mrs. Santa" - Flora Dawson, Clin- ton; 3rd - Shawl - Ethel Long, Brussels; 4th - Place Mats - Ellen Lefore, Brussels. The evening concluded with a meal prepared by the Lunch Committee convened by Delores Wheeler. The December meeting of the St. Ambrose C.W.L. was held Tue0ay December 11, in the form of a Christmas pary at the home of Judy R.R.2 Listowel, Ontario Tel. 291-3810 Harwood C.
