Seaforth unman TIRE 123 456 789 7 P J ROBERTS ICE BOX COOKIES 1 c. butter or margarine or 1/2 c. of each (room temperature) 3/4 light brown sugar 1/2 tsp. vanilla 1 egg 1/8 tsp. salt 2 1/2 c. sifted, all purpose flour 1 c. of chopped walnuts or pecans 1 c. glace or drained, maraschino cherries, halved In large bowl cream together the butter, or margarine, sugar, vanilla, salt & egg, until well blended. Add flour and beat until well mixed. Add nuts & cherries. Mix well. Divide dough in half on sheet of wax paper. Form into two rolls 2" or 2'/2" in diameter. Chill dough, or freeze until hard. With sharp knife, slice about 1/4 " thick. Place on ungreased cookie sheet 1/2 " apart. They do not spread. Bake 10 to 12 min. at 375°. Do not overbake. These should just be lightly browned. Remove & cool on cake racks. A slice of red or green cherry can be placed on each cookie, before baking, if desired for Christmas cookies. RR1 Dublin OATMEAL COOKIES 1 egg 11/2 cups brown sugar 1 cup shortening ( I use margarine) 1 cup coconut 1 3/4 cups flour 1 teaspoon soda 1 teaspoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 11/2 cups quick cooking oatmeal 1 teaspoon vanilla Cream shortening and sugar, beat in egg. Sift in dry ingredients. Add oatmeal, coconut and vanilla. Roll in inch balls in palm of hands, place on cookie sheet and press down with fork that has been dipped in milk. Bake 350* for 10 or 12 min. Grace E. Smith SHORTBREAD COOKIES 1 cup butter 1/2 cup icing sugar 1/2 cup corn starch 2 to 3 cups pastry flour Knead well. Gently roll or press dough together between 2 layers of waxed paper 1/4 " thick, Cut with cookie cutter and place on ungreased cookie sheet. Or use cookie press. Bake in moderate oven 300* for 20 to 25 minutes. Drop by tsp on ungreased cookie tin. Decorate with 1/4 or 1/2 maraschino cherry. Bake at 350•F for 12-15 min. Turn off oven and leave for `10 minutes.
