Arena debt paid off with
Brussels Lions Club donation

SOME OF THE BIG WINNERS — These people
were the some of the big money winners when
the Brussels Lions Club held their third annual
elimination draw on Saturday night at the
Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre.

A car was -stolen from
Brussels last Thursday night
when Harvey Dennis of
Brussels parked to go into
Jacobs' Harness Shop and
upon returning three min-
utes later discovered the car
was missing. The theft hap-
pened about 5:45 p.rri.
The Goderich O.P.P. loc-
ated the car between Sea-
forth and Kippen on Satur-
day night but it had to be
taken to McLaughlin's Gar-
age in Seaforth as the
transmission had been taken
out of the car, and the starter
was burned out. The police
are still investigating the
incident.

Brussels theft
- The Brussels Lions Club paid off the debt
on the Brussels, Morris and Grey
Cominunity Centre following the
presentation of a cheque for $4,220.80 to Jim
Prior, chairman of the arena building fund
committee by Roy Cousins,first Lions Club
president in 1946bon Saturday night at the
arena.
The cheque was given at the Lions Club
third annual elimination draw. The draws
were started by, the Lions Club in '1977 to
raise money for the new arena. They
managed to raise $14,000 and then when the
Club heard about the debt remaining on-the
arena they decided to pay, that off too which
they did with the cheque on Saturday night.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Bremner of Brussels
were the big ,winners of the $2,500 prize at
the elimination draw.
Other big prize money winners included
Mr. and Mrs. Rick McDonald of Walton who
won the $500. prize, Welland Krauter of
Ethel who won $250, Brett Fischer infant son
of Mr. anti Mrs. Murray Fischer of R.R.3,
Brussels who won $300. and Mrs. Marlene
Rutledge of Brussels who won $200.
Winners of the $150 prizes included Bill
Moses of R.R.3, Brussels for the 400th ticket
drawn, Robert Raymond for the 425th, John
Van Vliet for the 450th and Mrs. Rene
Richmond of Brussels for the 475th ticket
drawn.
Gerry Knechtel of Shakespeare and DOug
McLean of Clinton were whiners of the $100.
prizes for the 350th and 375th ticket drawn.
Lloyd Jacklin of R.R.1, Listowel, John
Albers Of R.R.2, Bluevale, Ann Winkel of
Fordwich and Don Miller of R.R.1, Ethel
who each won $75 were holders of the 250th,
275th, 300th and 325th tickets respectively.
The $50. prize winners included M.R.
Oliver of Listowel for the 150th, ticket, Max
and Jean Oldfield of Brussels for the 175th
ticket, Ross and. Anna Cunningham of
Brussels for the 200th ticket, and James
Gerrett of Newmarket for the 225th ticket
drawn.
Winners of the $25 prize included Don
Beckman of Cambridge who had the first
ticket drawn, Ed Krauter of Ethel for the
25th ticket drawn, Bill McClure of Seaforth
for the 50th ticket, Herb Travis of Walton for
the 75th ticket, Dave Inglehart'of Burlington
for the 100th ticket and Richard Carson of
Gorrie for the 125th ticket drawn.
WOODSTOCK RELIEF
In another project the Brussels Lions Club
donated $1,000 to the Woodstock relief fund
following the tornado there. Voluntary
donation boxes are going to be placed in the
two banks in Brussels until the, end of this
week for anyone else who would like to
donate to the fund.
The Brussels Optimists are also doing
their part to help out the Woodstock relief
fund. They called the Huron County
Federation of Agriculture and asked whether
or not it would be better to donate cash or
volunteer their time to help out. They were
told their help would be better so they
donated their, time as volunteers and
planned to pay for a bus or buses for anyone
from the community who, wanted to
volunteer their help to go down there. on
Wednesday morning at 7 a.m.

The Huron Pork
Producers, Association
decided to donate $200,to the
Tornado Relief Rund to help
Woodstock and area
residents clean up and
rebuild , after the storm
disaster.
At 'their meeting Monday
night, the association
members also announced the
annual pork barbeque on
Aug. 23, at the Bruesels
Alien* from 5 to 8 p.m.
More than 850 tickets to
the barbeque have already
been sold, said Jean-Paul
Rill, president of the
association, and "no more
than, 1,200 tickets will be
issued, so anyone wanting to
go to the event will be
advised to approach a county
pork director.
