16 — THE BRUSSELS POST JULY 4 1979
Brussels Bombers now playing serious ball
BY SCOOP
Well, Bomber fans, back
to the old ball game. It's time
to tell you about some of the
games we've played now that
I've introduced the team to
you.
The month of June has
been a good month, for a
change. The girls have
decided to play serious ball --
Muzz can't believe it. He
only smokes half a pack of
cigarettes instead of a whole
one. This year, Muzz has a
' problem. Of course he has
more than one, but this has
to do with ball. When
coaching in third base, he
has trouble with his whoas
and gos. The girls can't
understand him. If he took
the cigarette out of his mouth
and quit mumbling Ruth
would know he said whoa
and not have to race like mad
for home. In Rostock, she
took out the catcher and
pitcher and the ump
scrambled for the fence.
When the dust cleared, we
had to send out the medics to
pick up the bodies. Get your
signals straight, daddy-o.
It was a terrific game. We
won 21-3, even though
Dusty, our first base coach
gets confused and sends
Shulz on to second on a fly
ball with only one out. Muzz
sent her to the dug-out for
the rest of the game. He's
reconsidering her contract.
Now he calls her dummy.
She'll have to really prove
herself next game.
We played three games
and won three. We downed
Wellesley 19-6. We not only
had to beat Wellesley, we
also had to beat the ump--he
made up his own rules. He
allowed the pitchers only five
pitches in warm-up but for-
got to tell us. The star of this
game was Mama Lowe. She
hooked herself to the fence
with her chest protected and
it took 15 minutes to get her
un-hooked. Now there's a
hole in the fence because we
had to use wire cutters.
The next game was in
Mitchell and we won again
15-0, We decided in this
game not to let the other
team past second base. This
time it was "Lefty" who
really confused the games--
we can't figure out what
game she's playing. The
bases are loaded--she drib-
bles a hit to the pitcher. She
somehow makes it to first,
and forces everyone to make
a mad scramble. Mini on
first, goes to second, Shultz
heads for third and if you've
ever seen her run, even a six
year old would beat her.
Instead of stopping, Lefty
heads on to second, forcing
Mini in to third, Shulz on to
home. Muzz was chewing his
nails and the girls on the
bench were yelling stop, but
on she came. Muzz is
ye lling at Mini at third to
whoa, then go, then no, then
when Mini looks arour.
who's coming on to third but.
Letty. That would make two
of us and the third base min
at third, so on goes M:n1

"Everybody's more easy-
going in Alberta than here.
It's a more relaxed atmos-
phere," says Ruth Ann
Smith, a former Brussels
area resident who returned
for a short visit last week
with her grandmother, Mrs.
Adeline Smith.
Ruth Ann was on her way
from her present home in
Lethbridge, Alberta, to
Guelph where she is to be
one of four delegates from
the Presbyterian church in
Lethbridge attending a
.church conference.
Summers are not as humid
in Alberta but winter tem-
peratures reach ten below
(although it doesn't seem
that cold) according to Ruth
Ann. Her family moved to
Edmonton after leaving
Brussels, but later moved to
Lethbridge where they have
been living for the past three
years.
The Presbyterian church of
Canada • is sponsoring the
conference Ruth Ann will be
attending where she looks
forward to meeting people
and finding out other
people's views.
Sessions and workshops at
the conference, called Con-
ference '79 will cover such

A man decided to sell his
racehorse, Irving, very cheap
even though the animal had
won several races during the
season, "He's too much of a
ham," the owner told a
prospective buyer. "He
thinks he's an actor. When
he won a race by four
lengths, he sneered at the
other horses, and last week
in a photo finish, he turned
his head so the camera could
get his' good side."
"I don't, care if he wants to
be an actor," said the buyer.
"I'll take him anyway.
Here's your money."
The seller pocketed the
money and led the buyer to
the stable. "Irving," he said,
"this is your new owner. Get
up and do your lame impres-
sion."
hold of Lefty to stop her and
sends Mini who by now is
exhausted, home, and runs
into Shulz who just made it
home. By this time ,Muzz is a
nervous wreck, downing the
nerve pills--two cigarettes
going.
The other team is totally
confused--they're throwing
the ball allover trying to get
one of us. As you can see, we
were on the move.
Of course, the pitchers had
a lot to do with winning the
game. With two pitchers, the
other team just doesn't know
what they're going to throw.
Flo just throws them in so
high and slow, Mitchell
thought they'd kill the ball,
but instead they put their
backs out. Flo just grins.
Mini had a good two innings
three balls thrown, three out.
Same as the next inning, only
the first base man Slammer
pushed the hair out of her
eyes and missed the ball, so
it took four balls to set three
out.
Our next game is against
topics as "Ourselves as
Others See Us," "Christian
Dimensions of Human
Rights" and "Points of
Justice and Love." Ruth Ann
hopes to use the information
she gains to help out others.
She was sent to the confer-
ence by her church session in
Lethbridge.
Ruth Ann, 17, is the
daughter of Ross and Esther
Smith who formerly lived at
what is now the John. Bone-
schansker residence at RR 1
Ethel.
Sebringville, Friday in
Sebringville. ThiS- should be
an exciting game. This time,
we're not going to let them
win, no matter what Muzz
says. Our home games start
July 1.1 against Rostock, July
18 against Wellesley and
July 25 against Mitchell, all
at 8:30.
Mary "Grandma" Lowe
has agreed to sell popcorn
again this year. She has
hired Vera to sell the pop.
Business was so good last
year, they're thinking of
selling pendants.
Royal Jerry Dillow has also
agreed to be cheerleader for
us. He did a terrific job for us
from the bleachers last year.
See you at the ball game.
It's more relaxed in Alberta,
