There were 722 cattle and 2202 pigs on offer. Choice Steers-83.00 to 85.00 with sales to 86.00 A steer consigned by Bob McDonald of Brussels weigh- ing 1190 lbs. sold for 86.00 with his lot of 14 steers averaging 1135 lbs. selling for 84.65. Three steers consigned by Henry Farms of Blyth aver- aging 1073 lbs. sold for 85.20 with their 44 steers averag- ing 1180 lbs. selling for an overall price of 84.10. Nine steers consigned by Leo Dietner of Ethel averag- ing 1151 lbs. sold for 85.50 with his lot of 17 steers averaging 1138 lbs. selling for 85.05. Twenty-six steers con- signed by Maple Emblem Farms of Dungannon averag- ing 1164 lbs. sold for an overall price of 84.00. Three heifers consigned by Bob Hennick of Mitchell The two-month-long fire- arms amnesty program at the end of 1978 has caused a six-month minimum delay in processing applications for restricted weapon permits. These applications deal with three categories of guns. They are: Rifles or shotguns with a muzzle vel- ocity of over 500 feet per second, a barrel length of less than. 18% inches and which use centre-fire ammu- nition in a semi-automatic mode. Also included are guns such as pistols de- signed to be fired with one hand; Guns that can be folded or telescoped shorter than 26 inches and Fully automatic weapons regis- tered prior, to January 1, 1978, and forming part of a bona fide gun collection. Cranbrook raises $485 for cancer Correspondent MRS. MAC ENGEL 887-6645 Mrs. Wilfred Strickler reports that convassers collected $485.50 in the Cranbrook area for cancer research. The canvassers were, Dale Knight, Jean Conley, Beryl Smith, Vernice Prescott, Nancy Vanass, Olga Speiran, Sharon Evans, Eleanor Stevenson, Brenda Perrie and Yvonne Knight, Many thanks to all who helped. Mrs. Adams is the former Marie Veitch and this is the first grand daughter for Mr. and Mrs. Clare Veitch. Mrs. Veitch is in Manotick with her daughter. Rintoul, of R.R. 2, Lucknow weighing 965 lbs. sold for 81.10. Chief Provincial Firearms Officer, Jim Villemaire, of the O.P.P. Registration Branch says, "We processed 22,000 during the amnesty, ten times the usual number. All of the applications have OVER $22,000 IN CASH PRIZES A heifer consigned by Clare VanCamp of Beigrave weighing 920 lbs. sold for 82.75. A heifer consigned by Quincey Bridge of R.R. 2, to be vetted, through Ottawa." Superintendent Villemaire continued, "With forms going in from right across the country, it will take them a while to get to them all." Wingham weighing 1010 lbs. sold for 82.75.
