How True!
A man who went broke in business said:
"I blame it all on advertising."
His friend replied: "What do you mean?
You never did any advertising."
"I know," the man answered,
"But my competitors did!"

Smiles
The boy, on receiving a
poor report card, stopped
after class to ask the teacher
if she would reconsider his
marks, adding, "At home
I'm already on the list of
endangered species."
As a financier, you might
say that old Noah was vastly
underrated. After all, he
floated his stock while every-
one else was being liquidated,
by Mrs. B, Humphries. Mrs.
Reid gave the history of the
Walton Hall which was a
methodist Church in 1873 on
the 14th concession McKillop
before being moved to its
present location. She spoke
of the Walton Hotel on the
corner that is now the re-
staurant which dated back
over 100 years and has
changed hands many times
in the recent years. She told
of the Walton Library and of
the librarians that looked
after the books. It was first
started in 1902, used to be in
different homes, before they
fixed up the present
building, Mrs. Reid outlined
It was a heavy scene of
concentration as parents
brought their children for
pre-Kindergarten screening
to the Brussels Public School
on ThUrsday.
Ila Kayes, co-ordinator of
student services for the
Huron County board of
education said the screening
helps teachers find out a
great deal more about the
children before they come
into the classroom.
She said that way teachers
can set up programs to take
advantage of the child's
strength and have ways of
knowing how to improve the
child's weaknesses, if any.
"We want parents to know
what we're doing," Mrs.
Kayes said.
She said research has
proven that the sooner you
give help to a child with
weaknesses, the better the
improvement is going to be.
"The idea is to make the
child successful right from
kindergarten," she said.
Testing is related to the
child's learning skills in-
cluding visual, auditory,
physical, and motor skills.
• Each parent receives an
individual report on the child
as a well as little booklet to
explain how the parents can
help them to learn at home.
The principal and the
kindergarten teacher also re-
ceive a summary of how child
has done' and added to that
summary is a list of the
children who have shown
some weaknesses so the
kindergarten teacher can
give them help, early.
"And that help should
all the business that used to
be in Walton, it was a
thriving place in those days,
hard to realize it is down to
so few buisnesses now. Mrs.
Keith Rock thanked the
speaker.
A lively sing-song of many
favourite songs was con-
ducted by Mrs. N. McGavin
assisted by Mrs. B.
Humphries on the piano.
This was much enjoyed by
everyone present. Mrs. Viola
Kirkby contributed another
reading, "Pioneer". The
Queen brought the meeting
to a close followed by the
Institute members serving
refreshments.
come early in the school
year," Mrs. Kayes said.
