To celebrate the books and the people that contribute to the country's rich literature, Canda's first National Book Festival is scheduled to take place April 2-8. The Festival which is sponsored by the Canada Council, is to be a time when writers, publishers, librarians, book- sellers - and readers can promote the idea to read Canadian. Many local branch libraries in Huron County Society hears about house plants Huron libraries joining in national book festival Mrs. A. McCall presided and welcomed everyone. Delegates to the District Convention in Tara in April are to be Mrs. C, Hemingway Mrs. I, JvIcLarty, Mrs, A. McCall and Mrs. E. Cudmore. A bus trip for the end of May was discussed and the secretarris, to see about it. Mr. A Knight read the news letter. Mrs. G. Gibson then, introudced the panel. Tne- March meeting of the Brussels Horticultural Society was held in the Public Library, Monday March 19th. Brussels Friendship club met Wednesday, March 21, with a very good attendance. PresideaVerna Thomas Pre- sided Lulu Kerr at the piano. Don McDonald sang three Irish numbers namely, "Gal- way Bay", "Danny Boy" and "Irish Lullaby". Secretary Gertie Bolger will be participating in the nation-wide book bash. Dis- plays of books by Canadian authors, special bookmarks, book bags, and balloons will all serve as a reminder of Canada's first National Bodk Festival. On Sunday, April 8 at 4:30 p.m. across Canada the CBC television ' network will broadcast a special half-hour program on Canadian children's books, This pro- gram is produced in co- operation with the National Book Festival and the ildren's Book Centre. Mrs, I. McLarty who spoke on houseplants, Mrs. E. Cunningham who spoke on mums, Mrs. 1? Hemingway spoke on marigolds, and Mr. A Knight spoke on roses. This was followed by a question period.
