relative or friend, who has suffered the
ravages of this, desease. It can be controlled,
cured in early stages. A way must be found
to prevent or cure. That will only be
accomplished by the intensive research that
goes on in Canada. Research takes a great
deal of money. That is where we can all help.
Attend the Dessert Euchre. When a

It seems even our homes are not safe
from cars driven by out-of-control operators.
Whatever the reason for it one does not
expect to have their home damaged by
someone crashing into it with a car and
disappeating. That is what happened at the
home of Mr. and .Mrs. Wilbur Turnbull
Saturday night.

All sets for the Family Carnival this
Saturday? If you are not going to compete in
any of the events be there as a spectator to
share in the excitement and admire the
costumes. You will be delighted with the
feature attractions, "The Old
Smoothies" (they are really something) and
Bill Riddell, the skater on stilts, as well as
the local talent. Bring the whole family to
enjoy the carnival,.

If you enjoy watching figure skating you
must have been pleased on Sunday. There
was an hour of highlights from the World
Championships in Vienna, Austria. The best
of world figure skaters displayed their skill
and artistry in competition. Canadians
brought home no medals. Some had•
mishaps, others lack of experience and
nerves took their toll. They however, had no
need to be embarrassed. They certainly
caught the attention of the judges. More
than one Canadian performer got a standing
ovation from the spectators. There future
looks bright indeed.

The action committee to save the
Wingham hospital is urging people to write
letters to Health Minister Dennis Timbrell
about hospital bed and budget cuts.
Some of the points, the committee says
could be mentioned in the letters are the
monetery savings--the fact that tho, iospital is
under budget, has a lower cost per hed, a 78
per cent occupancy rate and that the active
length of stay is 7.3 days, lower than the
provincial average of eight days. Or the fact
that the hospital was built by the Community °
for the community without the government's
help and the eitizens' right to keep quality of
'care.
The committee questions the government,
formula of 3.5 beds per 1000 population.
They ask "Is this applicable in the Wingham
area as it is a unique area with a 13.8 per
cent senior's population, the winter storms,
and the only hospital in a 25 mile radius.
Also pointed out is that the Wingham
hospital has been efficient in cutting costs
which it has not been commended for and
they get no allowance of private funding.
Closures lead to loss of services 'in future
such as specialists, consultants, the cancer
clinic, and the nursing school. Also less beds
will mean less referrals and less beds in
future or a snowball effect which they
believe means that eventually the hospital
will have to close down. And finally, they
mention the cost in terms of time, dollars,
Stars on Ice and have been featured atthe Ice
Capades in. Kitchener.
Bill Riddell of St. Catherines who is one of
the few stilts skaters still around is also
featured.
All the money made at the carnival will go
help keep the figure skating club going. All
the prizes have been donated by local
merchants.
