Bluevale women see crafts

A' large display of crafts
,:..was an interesting feature of
the February meeting of the
Women's Institute held at
the home of Mrs. Ken Sim-
mons.
Mrs. Jim Armstrong,
convener of the Canadian
Industries committee, intro-
duced the guest speaker,
Mrs. Kuipers of Harriston,
who makes crafts for sale in
craft shows and is usually
busy from April until Christ-
mas. She makes door stops,
tea cozies, wall hangings,
plant containers, candy hold-
ers, aprons and other articles
She and a Harriston friend,
who makes quilts, combine
their crafts for craft shows.
Mrs. Kuipers gave each
lady a pattern for a tea cozy
and invited everyone to her
showroom to browse. She
also conducts travelling craft
parties for those who wish.
Following her interesting
"Prayer" was the theme
used by president, Mrs.
Glenn Golley when she
opened the March meeting of
the W.M.S. of Knox
Presbyterian Church. Twelve
ladies were present at Mrs.

Dayle Fischer
A miscellaneous shower
for Miss Dayle Fischer was
held Wednesday, Feb. 28 in
the Sapday School room of
the Bluevale United Church.
About 1001adies were pres-
ent. Mrs..,Murray Mac-
Farlane and Mrs. Jim Shaw
were hostesses. Contests
were enjoyed, then Dayle,
her mother, Mrs. George
Fischer and the groom's
mother, Mrs. Ced Moffat
opened many lovely and
useful gifts. Dayle thanked
eryone and lunch brought
this pleasant evening to a
close.
A surprise family shower
was held Sunday afternoon at
the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Joe Walker and family for
Dayle and Jim. Enjoying this
occasion were Mr. and Mrs.
George Fischer, Mr. and
Mrs. Ced Moffatt, Mr. and
Mrs. Don Green, Beverly,
Donna, Carol and Nancy,

'Mathers opened the meeting
and Mrs. Mel Craig read the
minutes, treasurers state-
ment and correspondence.
Mrs. Armstrong brought the
W.I. quilt that was shown at
the Plowing Match, for dis-
play at the meeting.
Mrs. Mathers read from
"Home and Country" that
Bluevale W.I., along with
other Insitutes in the area,
donated money to buy toys
for the children's ward at the
local hospital. A thank-you
note was read from Mrs. Bert
Garniss.
Mrs. Craig read a letter
from Mrs. Clarence Diamond
which contained a lot of
information, including the
dates of Ontario W.I. week at
the Erland Lee Home, June 5
to 9, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.
She also announced that a
Huron County scholarship
will again be givento a girl
who enrols in a dietetics
Walker's home.
Mrs. Ross Gray chose the
23rd Psalm for her Scripture,
repeated in unison. The Lord
cares so much, we shall not
want, Our bodies need rest,
quiet and food. He restores
our souls and gives love, joy
'Ind peace, the Psalm says,
Mrs. Gray offered prayer.
I hirty-one visits to the sick
were recorded. Mrs. Mann
and Mrs. Mundell thanked
the ladies for cards received.
Anyone having used
Christmas cards, plastic con-
t.iiners and dry cleaners bags
nay bring them to the May
meeting' to be given to the
Jack Reavie workshop.
Discussion of the April
Thankoffi ring followed, Mrs.
Wilson Thornton will be in-
vited to show slides on
Sunday, April 1 at 8:15 p.m.

Aid, Foster Parents' Plans,
volunteer work in class-
rooms, camp, or as baby-
sitter or help to a new
mother.
Mrs. Bill de Vos and Mrs.
Ortlieb took the course on
needlepoint. Anyone inter-
ested is asked to contact
either of them or the presi-
dent. Alternate District
Director Mrs. Wendell
Stamper attended a meeting
at the home of Mrs. McCall
in Brussels in January and
outlined what took place
Harry Elliott will welcome
the guests.
The offering was received
with prayer by Mrs. Golley.'

the topic New study book
"Search for China". The
question asked was, "What
are they fighting for?" Pos-
session of Vietnam was the
answer China has rejected
missionaries. Only 1% of the
large population are

taking part, telling us that
Saturday is their Sabbath
and they have house
meetings, sometimes every
night.
They have meetings in
their homes to avoid the
expense ,of large buildings.

get men together. Peace,

on May 8, with Bluevale
presenting' entertainment in
the afternoon. Theme is the

Membership in the Huron
Historical Society is $2.00
and each branch is asked to
take a $2.00 gift stall to be
auctioned at the conference.
The Huron County rally
will be held in South Huron
the first Monday in October.
All members are asked to
attend. Wroxeter W.I. will
host the District Annual in
1980 and Bluevale in 1981.
Roll call was answered by
changes the members would
like to see in marketing.
Some answers were pill
boxes made easier to open by
older people; cereals without
gimmicks and customers
returning egg cartons to the
stores.
