Obituaries short of goal
ISABEL McDONALD
Isabel Maude McDonald
died, Saturday, January 13 in
Wingham and District
Hospital following a lengthy
illness. She was in her 94th.
year.
She was horn in Wallace
Township, Dec. 17, 1885, the
daughter or William Bartley
and Mary Smith. She lived
and was educated in Listowe'
and was married tc
Archibald Livingstone
McDonald there. He pre-
deceased her in 1941.
She was a lifetime member
of the United Church of
Canada and of the U.C.W.
She was an active supporter
of the Sunday School where
tale taught for many years
and was a staunch worker
and supporter for the Save
the Children cause, as long
as her health permitted.
She was predeceased by
two brothers Ralph of
Vancouver, B C. and Stanley
of Niagara Falls.
Surviving are two children
Ian McDonald and Doris
McDonald both of Brussels;
two sisters, Nettie Bartley of
Toronto; Alberta (Mrs. Tom
Schnell) of Saginaw,
Michigan; and one brother
H.G. (Bill) Bartley of
Wingham.
Also surviving are three
grandchildren and one great-
grandchild.
Funeral services were held
at the Currie Funeral Home
in Wingham with Rev. Eric
LeDrew of Brussels of-
ficiating. Burial followed in
Brussels cemetery.
Pallbearers were Sandy
McDonald , Archie
McDonald, Neil Cowing,
Grant Bowman. Victor
Barley and Vela e Hupfer.
DORENE BYERMAN
Dorene Byerman, of 48
Lonsdale Ave., Guelph, and
formerly of the Brussels
area, died suddenly in St.
Minor injuries
in collision on
Hwy No. 4
On Wednesday, January
10, Jack J. Sanders of RR 1,
Belgrave and Barry S. Jones
of Kincardine were involved
in a collision on Highway #4,
North of Concession 4-5, east
Wawanosh Township. Mr.
Sanders received minor
injuries as a result of the
collision.
During the week January
8-14, officers at Wingham
Detachment conducted 35
investigations. 13 r charges
were laid under the Highway
Traffic Act and sixteen warn-
ings were issued. Two
charges were laid under the
Liquor Licence Act.
Joseph's Hospital, Guelph,.
on Dec. 19. She was 48 years
of age.
Mrs. Byerman, the former
Dorene McFarlane, was born
in Listowel Memorial
Hospital on July 18, 1930,
She was married on Oct. 9,
1954 to Melvin J. Byerman of
Searorth'.
They resided in Brussels
for six years where Mrs.
Byerman was a teacher at the
Brussels Public School. She
then taught in Acton until
1966, when she moved to
Guelph and taught for the
Wellington Board of
Education until a month
before her death.
Mrs. Byerman was a
graduate of Scaforth District
High School, Toronto
Teachers' College and the
Wilfrid Laurier University in
Waterloo where she received
her B.A. She also held a
certificate for teaching
special education. Mrs.
Byerman was a 25 year
member of the Federated
Women's Teachers'
Association of Ontario.
Mrs. Byerman was a
member of Dublin Street
United Church in Guelph
where she was interested in
the children's library.
Besides her husband
Melvin, she is survived by
her son, Gregory at home;
her mother, Mrs. Kenneth
McFarlane of Listowel; and a
sister, Mrs. John (Beryl)
Semple of R.R.1, Atwood.
She was predeceased by
her father, Kenneth
McFarlane, in 1975.
Funeral services were held
from the Maclntyre and
Wilke Funeral Home of
Guelph on Dec. 21. Inter-
ment was in Woodlawn
Cemetery, Guelph.
Donations to the Ontaric
Heart Foundation and the
Gideon Bible Society were
accepted as expressions of
sympathy.
At a recant meeting of the
Christmas Seal Campaign
Committee of the Huron
Perth Lung Association,
members were informed that
$44,521.24 had been re-
ceived to date in the 1978-
1979 campaign. This amount
is $3,500 short of the goal of
the Association for the next
fiscal year. A. Dunsmore of
R.R.2, Stratford, presided,
Appreciation was shown of
the work` of 22 volunteers
with 622 volunteer hours to
their credit in this current
campaign. Five of these
volunteer checked in almost
every day to assist staff with
all the jobs connected with
preparing and running the
campaign.

programmes being carried
on by the Association at the
moment. Members of the
Committee offered
suggestions re promotion of,
not only programme, but
campaign.
Mrs. Nancy Baldwin,
Executive Director of the
London Middlesex Lung
Association was the guest
speaker. Mrs. Baldwin ex-
plained of the partictilars of
the London Middlesex Lung
Association's first campaign
in computer.
BBA will elect
Feb. 7
The Brussels Business
Association (BBA) will be
holding a meeting for the
election of its new Executive
on Wednesday, February 7.
During the week, there
were seven motor vehicle
collisions which caused an
estimated $8300.00 in
property damage and injur-
ies to two persons.
On Saturday, January 13,
George J. Mahler of Etobi-
coke was southbound on
County Road #12, south of
Highway 86, Morris Town-
ship, When the vehicle he
was driving went Off the
roadway and struck the end ' 0. of a guide rail. Joyce A.
Overholt, a passenger in the
vehicle and also from Etobi-
coke, received minor injuries
as a result of the accident.
