How to lose
Many of us have added
some unwanted pounds
these past few months.
Holiday eating and de-
creased activity during the
winter are the two main
culprits.
Now is the time to make
improvements by looking at
your eating habits and your
activity level.
One of the easiest ways to
examine your eating habits is
to keep a record of every-
thing you eat for one week.
Jot down what you ate and at
what time, how you felt, who
was with you, where you ate
and what you were doing.
You may be surprised to
find that you eat because of
loneliness or boredom. Food
is often used as a substitute
for human companionship.
Get involved - start a fitness
program, take up new in-
terests.
Your record should show
your most vulnerable times
for sitting and overeating.
Just understanding your
eating and activity patterns
is often enough to make
simple changes.
Patience is important. A
weight loss of two pounds (or
one kilogram) per week is
ideal. Give your scales a
break. Weigh yourself only
once a week.
think about this. If a 125-
pound woman starts walking
one hour a day, by this time
next year she could be 12
pounds lighter. A 195-pound

With appreciation the
Melville Guild, accepted
Marg. Krauter's invitation to
hold their January meeting
in her home which
commenced with a pot luck
supper,
Marg opened the meeting
with King George's famous
Christmas Message: "out
your hand in the Hand of
God". After Scripture and
prayer offered by Rose
Marie Bishop, Wilma
Hemingway presented the
topic "New Year's
Resolution", dealing with
the new year of 1979.
Newly elected president
Donna Knight suggested
that each member invite a
friend to the February
meeting. Their introduction
to the group will take the
form of the roll call for that
month.
The study book for the
ensuing year will be the
"Women of the Bible".
man could lose about 18
pounds.
If you want an easy outline
for a daily diet, see Canada's
Food Guide. Followed as is,
it provides 1000-1400 calories
per day. Pick up a copy at
your local health unit.
To reduce the strain on
those bulging seams, avoid
rich desserts, jams, soft
drinks, syrups, rich sauces
and dressings, including
mayonnaise.
For a thinner you in '79,
let's have more activity and
less overeating,.
Success will by yours.
Helen Elliott and Marg
Sweeney reviewed and re-
vised the groups and pre-
sented the new leaders tor
each group. Group 1; Thelma
Cardiff, Kathleen Semple,,
Jean Ireland; Group 2: Helen
Elliott, Mary Huether,
Bernice McFarlane. Group 3:
Marg. McCutcheon, Isobel
Gibson, Ethel Brewer..
Newly revised groups will
be enclosed in the annual
report books.
Due to the pot luck supper
being held at the annual
meeting on January 30, the
group decided to dispense
with the lunch after church
on Sunday, January 28.
Wilma Hemingway
adjourned the meeting.
