The Brussels Post, 1979-01-24, Page 9Darrin Watts, team captain for the Brussels Pee Wee team, was smiling when he accepted the B division trophy for the Legion sponsored Pee Wee Tournament held in Blyth this weekend. Presenting the trophy is Henry Pattison, Blyth Legion President, and Bill Harris, Clinton, Legion sports officer for Zone C1. Brussels beat out Blyth 6-1. In their first game on Friday night they defeated Lucknow 2-0. Both Brussels goals were scored by Dean Wheeler with assists by David Wheeler and Marty Rutedge. Their first game on Saturday was against Wing- ham whom they defeated 6-2. Scorers were Dean Wheeler 2 goals, Marty Rut- ledge, David Wheeler, Sean Kieffer, Shawn Bremmer goal each. Assists went to David Wheeler, Dean Wheeler, Mike Vadar, Marty Rutledge. The team went on the ice at 10:30 Saturday night to win their third game defeating Seafortly 1-0. Brus- sels only goal was scored by David Wheeler with assists by Paul Tolton and Dean Wheeler. Each team had to be defeated twice to be eliminated from the tourna- ment. Brussels ended up playing Seaforth three times. Their first game on Sunday was against Seaforth. Brus- sels was leading 2-1 with Seaforth tieing the game with only 56 seconds re- maining in the game. In overtime Seaforth scored the winning goal defeating Brussels 3-2. Brussels' scorers were Sean Kuffer and Dean Wheeler. Marty Rutledge picked up the only assist. MI/ • I yi The Atoms were at the some of Blyth whom they defeated 4-1. Scoring for Brussels was Wayne Wheeler, Marty Rutledge, Dean Wheeler and Steven Wheeler. Assists went to Mike Vadar, Marty Rutledge and Steven Wheeler. The Bantams were at home to Clinton in an ex- hibition game. In a good game of hockey there was no scoring done until the third period with each team scoring 1 goal each and then Clinton got the winning goal with 1:58 left in the game. Brussels only goal was scored by Doug McArter with assists going to Steve Knight and Kevin Bishop. The Midgets also played Clinton in an exhibition game After a brief rest while another game was played the same two teams returned to the ice to play for the championship. Brussels scored 1 goal in the firstd in the second, and 2 in the third to win the trophy with a 6-0 victory over the Seaforth team. Those players par- ticipating in the tournament were Jeff McGavin, Marty Rutledge, Wayne Wheeler, David Wheeler, Dean Wheeler, Paul Tolton, Robbie Zimmer, Mike Vadar, Scan Kuffer, Shawn Bremner. Marty Rutledge picked up the trophy for the Most Valuable player of the tournament. The Atoms travelled to Zurich last Wednesday night to play hockey and scored a 6-0 victory. Scoring for Brussels was Marty Rutlege with 2 goals. David Wheeler, 2 goals, Paul Tolton and Dean Wheeler 1 goal each. Assists went to Dean Wheeler, Marty Rutledge and David Wheeler. The Bantam team was at home to Hensall on Wednesday night and de- feated them 5 - 3. Kevin Deitner led the Brussels attack scoring 3 goals, Steve Knight and Todd Wheeler 1 each. Assists went to Kevin. Leis, Peter Bennett, Steve Knight, Todd Wheeler, Kevin Deitner, Kevin Bishop. The Novice team hosted Seaforth on Saturday night. The boys played a good game of hockey even though they were defeated 3-1. Jeff Earl scored the only goal for Brussels with Dean Nichol- son getting an assist.
