Music highlights Centralia Thanksgiving

CENTRALIA
The Thanksgiving service
in the United Church Sunday
morning was one of in
spiration in both message
and music.
“A Sacrifice of Praise”
was the subject chosen by
Mr. Paul Schott for his
Thanksgiving sermon. He
made reference to the early
settlers who paved the way
for the religious privileges
enjoyed in today’s society
and pointed out that
Sacrifice is not always
pleasant but must continue.
The choir sang an anthem
and singing- in a men’s
quartet were Doug Gill, Bob

number by the quartet with
Mrs. Gill playing the piano
accompaniment.
The offertory music was
an organ and piano duet by
Mr. Gill and Mary Lou
Tasko. Mary Lou ac
companied Mr. Gill for the
singing of the hymns.
Autumn leaves, flowers,
fruits and vegetables were
arranged to make a colourful
setting for the service. A
special “thank you” to the
committee in charge, their
efforts were appreciated.

Thanksgiving week end at
their cottage at Shepherd
Lake.

home after spending last
week at Wiarton and
Fisherman’s Cove.
Mrs. Lloyd Vogan and

and son Trevor were Wed
nesday visitors with the
former’s mother, Mrs. Fred
Cunnington, and entertained
her to Thanksgiving dinner
at the Burkley Restaurant,
Exeter.
Sunday Mrs. Cunnington
was a dinner guest at the
home of her son and
daughter-in-law, Mr. and
Mrs. Howard Cunnington
and family, Thames Road.
Mrs. Lome Hicks was a
Sunday guest with her sister
and brother-in-law, Mr. and
Mrs. Clayton Scheifele in
Kitchener.
Miss. Elaine Powe, St.
Catharines , Mrs. Ron
Brittain, Richmond Hill and
Alan Powe, Guelph spent the
Thanksgiving week end with
their parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Elmer Powe.
Visitors at the manse with
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Schott
and family were Mrs.
Schott’s parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Alson Bauman, Kit
chener, for the Thanksgiving
week end and Monday
callers were Mr. and Mrs.

were Sunday evening callers
at the home of Mr. and Mrs.

Thanksgiving on Sunday at
the home of Mr. and Mrs.

Thanksgiving dinner at the

RETIRES — Mrs. Frances
Weston retired recently after
21 years of nursing service at
St. Peters Centre in Hamilton.
She received a Queen's
Jubilee medal. Mrs. Weston
is a former resident of Hay
township.
Staffa girls judge biscuits

The fourth meeting of the
Staffa Snackers was held
September 22 at the home of
the leader, Mrs, Joyce
Vivian.
The meeting was opened
with the 4-H pledge, followed
by the roll call answered by
13 members.
The assistant leader, Mrs.
Doris Jeffery, demonstrated
the procedure used in
making tea biscuits, the
right way and the wrong
way.
Later in the evening these
tea biscuits were judged by
the girls as this is one of the
tests for achievement day.
Shirley Miller showed
everyone how to make
“Wheat germ biscuits,” and
Susan Harburn, demon
strated “Cheese and bacon
swirls.”
Sara Brill then showed
everyone how to make
“Peanut butter and carrot
spread.” Mrs. Vivian talked
about different recipes you
could make, using the white
sauce demonstrated at the
last meeting, she also
discussed how to judge the
tea biscuits and explained
the home assignments.
