Times-Advocate, 1978-10-05, Page 25Women at Elimville hear about Canada's northland By KATHY COOPER ELIMVILLE The Elimville United Church Women met Wed­ nesday evening at the church. The program committee of Mrs. Ross Skinner and Mrs. Ina Skinner chose the topic of the “School Days” which was read al different intervals throughout the meeting by Mrs. Ross Skinner. Mrs. Ross Skinner read an article about many of the things that can be found in the Bible and Mrs. Howard Pym sang a solo ac­ companied by Mrs. Philip Johns. Mrs. Elson Lynn gave two reading “Friendship and “A gift of Friendship.” Mrs. Gilbert Johns gave a reading “What do you see?” Mrs. The readers write Dear Sir, I would like to add my congratulations to the men awarded the Queen’s Jubilee Medal, the subject of Mayor Shaw’s letter printed Sep­ tember 28. Our family are very proud of my husband’s nine medals, the last of which is the Queen’s Jubilee Medal awarded to him, and pre­ sented to him, by Major F. Vine (retired) at the Cadet Corps annual inspection in June. To read Mayor Shaw’s letter congratulating some, not all, of these Exeter citizens receiving this honour, is like a slap in the face, Mr. Mayor — do your homework! You really should have checked this out! Mary Lee 156 Andrew St. N. Exeter Ross Skinner led in prayer. Mrs. Ina Skinner in­ troduced the guest speaker Mrs. Gertie Hamilton of Exeter. Mrs. Hamilton along with Mrs. Beth Batten showed on a map the trip they had been on recently to the Northwest Territories, Yukon and Alaska and then back to Vancouver, British Columbia. Mrs. Hamilton showed her very interesting slides and told of their experiences. Mrs. Ross Skinner thanked Mrs. Hamilton and presented her with a gift. The president Miss Ruth Skinner presided for the next part of the meeting. The roll call was answered by “Your favourite Bible verse.” The fall regional will be held at Chieselhurst October 17. Young Peoples The Thames Road Elimville Young Peoples’ enjoyed a bowling party on Saturday evening. Prizes were given to Donna Ker- slake for ladies’ high and Robert Bray for men’s high. The-ladies’ low andmenslow were given to Pat Hodgert and Paul Stewart. Scott Hodgert and Cheryl Cann received prizes for lucky numbers. The Young Peoples’ enjoyed hotdogs at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Ross Hargreaves. 4-H Club The first meeting of Elimville II was held Sep­ tember 26 at Judy Johns’ house. The meeting opened with the 4-H pledge. The election of officers was held President, Donna Kerslake; vice-president, Deb Taylor; press reporter, Kathy Cooper and there will be a rotating secretary. The members said that the "Granola” would make an excellent topping for ice cream. The second meeting of Elimville II was held on October 2 at Kerslake’s. The meeting opened with the 4-H pledge. The roll call was answered by all present. For discussion the girls discussed breakfast and emphasis was placed on breakfast being the most important meal. The members were given opportunities to make up their own breakfast menus. For demonstration, energy squares and healthy peanut bread were made. The next meeting will be held October 11 at Jackie Van Rostel’s at 6:30 p.m. Bus Tour Mrs. Emerson Johns, Mrs. Allen Johns, Mrs. Delmar Skinner, Mrs. Elson Lynn, Mrs. DanTraquair and Mr. & Mrs. Alvin Cooper and Mr. & Mrs. Floyd Cooper enjoyed a three day tour with the Kirkton Horticultural Society. They visited the McLaughlin Home in Oshawa, enjoyed a tour the Kawartha Lakes district to Peterborough. They enjoyed seeing the Lift Locks work at Peter^ borough. A boat tour of the' Thousand Islands with a stop over at the famous Boldt Castle was enjoyed on Sunday afternoon. A short stop was made at the new Eaton Centre in Toronto on the way home. The autumn colour was lovely throughout the trip. Personals Mr. & Mrs. Don Kyle and boys of London visited recently with Mr. & Mrs. Alvin Cooper. Mr. & Mrs. Don Wilcox and family, Kitchener were recent guests with her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Wm. Routly. Many from the community attended the International Plowing Match at Wingham the past week. Mr. & Mrs. Jack Bailey, of near Stratfordvisited Friday with Mr. & Mrs. John Batten. Mr. • •& Mrs. David Passmore and Tom and Jon, Mr. &Mrs. Ken Kadey, Huron Park and Miss Marlyn Wein, London visited Sunday with Mr. & Mrs. John Batten and Ralph. Mr. & Mrs. Hubert Hunter observed their 48th wedding anniversary, October 1. Visiting with them to extend best wishes Sunday were Mr. & Mrs. Earl Hunter, Toronto, Mr. & Mrs. Jamie Davis, Whitby, Mr. & Mrs. EmeryGaiser, Exeter, Mr. & Mrs. Tony Schulman, Embro and Mr. & Mrs. Howard Pym.
