Times-Advocate, 1978-10-05, Page 13age 13Times-Advocate, October 5, 1978 games HOPEFUL HAWKS - The Lucan-llderton Jets completed exhibition play over the weekend in preparation for the opening of the regular season in the Ontario Hockey Association Continental senior league. The Jets were held to a 4-4 tie by the Woodstock Royals in Woodstock Friday night and Sunday afternoon they dropped a 5-3 decision to the Stratford Perths. The game was played at the new Lucan arena. The Jets were in Chatham last night, Wednesday to meet the newest team in the league the Chatham Fords. The first home game at the Ilderton arena will be Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m, when the London Kings will supply the opposition. A good start Against Stratford Sunday, the Jets got off to an ex­ cellent start as they scored the first two goals of the game and held a 2-1 edge at the end of the first 20 minutes of play. The game was less than a minute old when Jan McTavish put the Jets on the scoreboard. He converted passes from Brian Murphy and Bill White. Ed Robb put his club ahead 2-0 at the 10:11 mark as he fired the puck into the Stratford net on a play started by captain Barry Baynham and Gary Herr. The lone Stratford marker in the first period of play came from the stick of Terry Heinbuch. The Perths dominated play in the middle period and scored four unanswered goals to take a 5-2 margin with only 20 minutes left to Ploy. John Couarik notched the first two scores for the Perths and the next two, both on power plays were shot by Danny Seguin and Mitch Kennedy. The third and final goal for the L-I club came at 1:10 of the third session. It was produced by Dave Revington with assists going to Brian Murphy and Gary Herr. Jim Farmer was in goal for the Jets for the first half of of the game. He allowed four goals while facing a total of 10 shots. Murray Jamieson, a graduate of minor ranks in Parkhill took over for the second half and allowed only one of the shots fired at him to go by. goal la tie the score at 2-2. The final two Jets scores came in a little more than a minute just past the halfway mark of the middle period. Dave Revington started the quick scoring with a suc­ cessful shot at 12:44 and a minute and 10 seconds later Greg Roberts hit the mark, Ed Robb and Barry Baynham drew assists>on the Revington score and Jerry Jongeneelen provided the pass for Roberts. ' Third period goals for Woodstock by Lyle Rozendal and Mike Brodie created the tie game. Murray Jamieson and Jim Farmer again shared goal tending duties for the Jets. Each allowed two gals. Getaway good again In Friday’s game in Woodstock, the Jets also made a good start and held a 4-2 lead after two periods of Play. The first period was even with each team scoring once. Ted Long was the Woodstock marksman and Brian Murphy replied for the Jets on a three way effort with . Bill White and Barry Baynham while the op­ position was playing shor­ thanded. At 7:41 of the middle frame, Ed Parkinson shot the Jets in front with assists going to Randy McIntyre and Jim Pinnegar. Less than a minute later Ted Long notched his second Winkers hold lead in darts The closeness of the race in the Exeter Legion mixed dart league continues. The Winkers hold down first place with 11 points, one more than the runnerup Doublers, Tied for third place with nine points each are the Fly­ ing Highs and Out of Space. Bunched at eight points each are the Sassenachs, Outlaws, DR’s and Sabres, The Itchy Niters, CB’ers and Nicky Tams are deadlocked with seven points each, the Canscotts, Scotties, The Chanees and Shiphunters are all even at six points and the Family Affair trail with four points to their credit. Last week’s scores were: Doublers 4 — Itchy Niters 1, Flying High 4 — Canscott 1, CB’ers 3 —- Nicky Tams 2, Sassenachs 3 — Family Af­ fair 2, Winkers 3 — Scotties 2, Dr’s 3 — Shiphunters 2, Out of Space 3 — Outlaws 2. E. Madill of Wingham, 23-22 in a crowd pleasing game that ' ■ kept^spectator^ oh edge until the final whistle, Outstanding local players were Brenda Riddell who had 10 points, Maureen Gans with six and Deb Taylor who collected four points. Tuesday South Huron hosted Li^fowel and once again (he Soyth Huron Team was victorious, this time the final score was 22-16. Anita Verbeck scored six points and played a strong rebounding game. Brenda Riddell, Deb Taylor and Ronnalee Bogart also played very well. The next home game is Thursday October 12 when Central Hui’on'from’ Clinton will be the visiting the school. Parents are again invited to attend.
