Miss Pamela Medd resumed her studies at Huron College on Monday To release pheasants in By Bill McNutt For the second straight year over two hundred ring necked pheasants will be released into Stephen and Usborne Townships. These birds will join those which are released yearly in Hay Township. The birds which are released in Hay are raised by the Zurich gun club. This club has done a lot of work with birds in Hay for several years. Stephen and Usborne birds are raised by The South Huron Pheasant Association. This Exeter based group of sportsmen was formed two years ago with the co operation of The Ministry of Natural Resources; Stephen and Usborne townships and several local sportsmen. The money to raise the pheasants comes from the sale of regulated township hunting licences. These licences are required by all those who wish to hunt rabbits, pheasants or foxes in any of the three mentioned townships. They may be purchased at Stan Fraynes general store and Treibner’s gun shop in Exeter; Stephen Township office in Crediton and Rollies Sport and Cycle in Grand Bend. Ninety percent of the total cost of the licence goes directly toward raising birds for the next season. This summer the Exeter area birds were distributed and the raising over seen by Fred Walters. Dwight Zehr and Harrison Schoch did much of the work in the Zurich area but one must also remember that they had lots of help. I would as chairman of the Exeter Association, like to Parkhill By MRS. Miss Julie Webb spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Norris Webb, following completion of her summer work at Trenton and resumed her studies Monday in third year Medicine at University of Toronto. extend my thanks to an me people who helped make this years programme a success. Many people other than the above helped by donating their time and space to raise the birds, so when you get a shot at one of these brilliant game birds this fall remember who made it possible. Some of the pheasants have already been released and the remaining ones will be let go September 16. The more township licences that are sold this year will mean more birds next year so lets everyone get those licences. One should also be well advised that if the threatened postal strike becomes a reality, it may become difficult to obtain a migratory bird licence which is sold at the post office. The best way to be sure, if you want to hunt ducks or geese,. is to get to the post office now! Also, for all of those of you who still don’t know, we have been granted an archery only deer season this year in our area. It will run from October 23 to December 16 and remember that black powder guns are not allowed. All the small and bird game seasons open in our area September 23 so remember to wait until the season opens before you shoot and be sure to have all the correct licences. r to Goderich Power Squadron offers CANADIAN POWER SQUADRONS COURSES — Boating Course — Seamanship Power — Seamanship Sail — Advanced Piloting.
