Times-Advocate, 1978-08-17, Page 13Hensail in rec loop lead With only one week left to go in the season, it’s all but official that Hensail will take the regular season title in the Exeter and area men’s recreational softball league. This week, Hensail con­ tinued its winning ways with a 25-12 victory over Gords. This gives the village squad 30 points on a record of 15 wins and three losses. Continuing their hold on second place are the Crescent Rolls with their 27 points picked up from 13 wins, four losses and one tie. In games played last week the Crescent Rolls defeated Mt, Carmel 23-2 and the Timesj Advocate 13-9. In third place are the Carpetbaggers with a record of 11 and six and 22 points. In their only game this week, the Dinney squad lost to Usborne 17-6. , } Only two points behind the Carpetbaggers are Usborne with nine wins eight losses and two ties. Dropping into the second half of the division sees Gords with 17 points picked up from eight wins, nine losses and a tie. Dashwood Industries is in sixth spot with a seven and 10 record. In addition to their loss to Mt. Carmel, DIL fell to the Times Advocate 18-14. It’s a real battle for second last and last place with the T- A and Mt. Carmel deadlocked at eight points each. These positions should be decided next week as each teams final two games of the the season are against each other. The Dashwood Tigers eliminated the Crediton Mets from further Huron- Perth senior baseball action with two straight victories in a best-of-three semi-final series. The Tigers took the first game in Dashwood Friday night by a score of 16-4 and wound up the series with a 14-3 win in Crediton Tuesday night. The Tigers will now meet either Clinton Colts or Thorndale for the league championship. In Friday’s opener, the Tigers jumped on Crediton ot Dealspitchers Rick Bowers and Larry Clarke for 14 hits while the Mets could manage only five base hits. Jim Pfaff went the first eight innings on the mound for Dashwood. Brian Rader came in to toss the last in­ ning and retired the side in order. Barry Baynham batting in the number three spot led the Tigers at the plate with five hits in six tries. Four of the hits were doubles. John Hayter was next best at the plate for Dashwood with a homer and two doubles. Kevin Bestard cracked out two hits while single base hits went to Bob Hoffman, Noel Skinner and Glen Thurman. Gord Baird led the Crediton batters with a three run home run in the se­ cond inning. Others getting one hit each were Gary Skinner, Larry Clarke, Pete Wuerth and Rick Bowers. Dashwood playing manager Glen Thurman led his team in Tuesday’s vic­ tory with a home run in the second inning. Perry Stover and Brian Rader shared pitching duties for the Tigers while Dan Heywood went the dis­ tance for Crediton. ... Right behind with a score of 24 was Harrison Schoch while Joe Kenda, Bert Mahaffey and Merv Botkin were all even at 23. Lloyd Venner and Dan Crerar were next in line with 22 shots each, Doug Sutton hit 21, John Lohse 20 and Ken Kipfer and Robert McGregor 19. The regular schedule of the Southwestern fastball league has been completed and Lieury emerged as champions with 38 points. In a close finish the Lucan Irish were second with 36 points and Nairn third with 34 points. Huron Park ended in fourth position- at 24 points. Poplar Hill had 22 points for fifth place, Parkhill 18, Lieury juniors league Corners 14 and Sylvan 10. Huron Park clinched fourth spot with an 8-6 win over Parkhill Saturday night.
