IRVIN RADER DASHWOOD A most interesting meeting was planned by the Education and Cultural Ac­ tivities group with Mrs. Emil Becker convener for Tuesday. The group met at the telephone building in Dashwood and were greeted by Bill Wagner and Bob Hen­ drick. A display of modern telephones was admired by all. The ladies received souvenirs. A conducted tour of the building left one a lit­ tle wiser and amazed. From there the ladies went to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hoffman where Harry treated them to a dis­ play of the past with phones dating back to 1881. Harry, who was with the telephone company for many years, hopes to get them all refinished and working. Mrs. Eben Weigand con­ ducted the business. Roll call was to give your phone number before dial. Some of the 17 members present could not remember. There were 6 visitors. The Institute gave gifts to the 4- H girls for County honours. Kim Gaiser. Pauline Dietrich, Brenda Riddell and Razma Zemitis. Those receiving Provincial honor gifts were Cindy Becker. Cathy Becker and Sandra Schroeder. The leaders also received token gifts. Mrs. Ray Rader gave a report of the Officers’ Convention and the District Annual. Duties at the plow­ ing match in September for members of Dashwood Women’s Institute were read. Mrs. Eben Weigand and Mrs. Stuart Wolfe are in charge of the Fair exhibit. Fifty tickets have been ordered to two plays at the Country Playhouse and these may be purchased from Mrs. Harry Hoffman. The first is for July 18 name­ ly “Parlour. Bedroom and Bath": the second is for August 8. namely “Oklahoma". Mrs. Weigand wished us all an enjoyable summer and lunch followed. Visit Kitchener The Senior Citizens will meet at the community cen­ tre Monday. June 19 at 6:30 for a picnic. They are reminded to bring a pot luck lunch and cutlery. Plates and cups will be provided. Eleven members of Dashwood Senior citizens. Mr. and Mrs. Eben Weigand. Mrs. Pearl Miller, Mrs. Mildren Kellerman, .Mrs. Hilda Rader. Mrs. Mervvn Tieman, Mrs. Ross Love, Helen Nadiger, Mrs. Jessie Rader. Mrs. Beulah Desjardine and Mrs. Syd Neeb joined with Grand Bend Seniors for a rainy day bus trip to Kitchener where they visited the Farmers’ Market and Doon Village, had their lunch and returned to Stratford to a shopping centre and had supper at the Ponderosa before returning home. Rader reunion The Rader reunion was held Sunday, at Dashwood community centre pavilion with a good turnout. Ray Rader, president welcomed all and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Miller conducted sports with winners in the running races as follows: pre-school - David McGuire: 5-8 - Karen Miller and Michael Rader; 9-12 - Charlotte Miller and Robert Rader; young ladies - Carol Rader: young men - Ray Taylor: married ladies - Mrs. Fred Miller; married men - Paul Rader; minute walk - Mrs. Earl Rader; kick the slipper - Robin Rader. Michael Rader, Barb Rader and Earl Rader; balloon throw - Julie Rader and Tracey Soldan; Fred Miller and Paul Rader; push-ups - Paul Rader; sit- ups - Charlotte Miller and several relays were en­ joyed. Mrs. Dave Rader won guessing number of beans in the jar. Several special prizes were given at the supper time. Ray Taylor - lucky plate; Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Miller - nearest wedding an­ niversary; youngest present - Shelley Miller; oldest - Mrs. Adeline Kraft, 89. Attends convention Pastor M. Mellecke and Earl Keller attended the 63rd convention of the Lutheran church-Missouri Synod at Wilfred Laurier un­ iversity, Waterloo, last week. It was requested that the District Board find ways and means to supply a field man for Evangelism in On­ tario. Rev. K. Zorn, Kitchener, chairman of the District’s board of Evangelism felt it was the greatest develop­ ment in the last 10 years. He said the greatest need for our congregation was to reach out and bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to others. Rev. K. Hahn, Lon­ don, called the decision of a field worker “An invaluable thing.’’ Once again in District’s budget there is provision for the establishment of a ministry to the retarded of the Province. Lightning strikes Lightning struck the tower at the Lutheran church Mon­ day afternoon. Fortunately there was no fire. Personals Doug and Anne Nutt, Paul and Rachel. London, are new residents of Dashwood haying moved into the Gaiser apartment. Pastor M. Mellecke had minor surgery on his hand last week at University hospital, London. Mr. and Mrs. Max Wagner and Mr. and Mrs. Hans Wagner, Germany, nephews of Mrs. Fred Messner are spending some time with her.
