A
Institute sees telephones,
Dashwood seniors travel
By MRS. IRVIN RADER
DASHWOOD
A most interesting
meeting was planned by the
Education and Cultural Ac
tivities group with Mrs.
Emil Becker convener for
Tuesday. The group met at
the telephone building in
Dashwood and were greeted
by Bill Wagner and Bob Hen
drick. A display of modern
telephones was admired by
all. The ladies received
souvenirs. A conducted tour
of the building left one a lit
tle wiser and amazed.
From there the ladies
went to the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Harry Hoffman where
Harry treated them to a dis
play of the past with phones
dating back to 1881. Harry,
who was with the telephone
company for many years,
hopes to get them all
refinished and working.
Mrs. Eben Weigand con
ducted the business. Roll
call was to give your phone
number before dial. Some of
the 17 members present
could not remember. There
were 6 visitors. The
Institute gave gifts to the 4-
H girls for County honours.
Kim Gaiser. Pauline
Dietrich, Brenda Riddell
and Razma Zemitis. Those
receiving Provincial honor
gifts were Cindy Becker.
Cathy Becker and Sandra
Schroeder. The leaders also
received token gifts.
Mrs. Ray Rader gave a
report of the Officers’
Convention and the District
Annual. Duties at the plow
ing match in September for
members of Dashwood
Women’s Institute were
read. Mrs. Eben Weigand
and Mrs. Stuart Wolfe are in
charge of the Fair exhibit.
Fifty tickets have been
ordered to two plays at the
Country Playhouse and
these may be purchased
from Mrs. Harry Hoffman.
The first is for July 18 name
ly “Parlour. Bedroom and
Bath": the second is for
August 8. namely
“Oklahoma".
Mrs. Weigand wished us
all an enjoyable summer
and lunch followed.

Attends convention
Pastor M. Mellecke and
Earl Keller attended the
63rd convention of the
Lutheran church-Missouri
Synod at Wilfred Laurier un
iversity, Waterloo, last
week. It was requested that
the District Board find ways
and means to supply a field
man for Evangelism in On
tario.
Rev. K. Zorn, Kitchener,
chairman of the District’s
board of Evangelism felt it
was the greatest develop
ment in the last 10 years. He
said the greatest need for
our congregation was to
reach out and bring the
Gospel of Jesus Christ to
others. Rev. K. Hahn, Lon
don, called the decision of a
field worker “An invaluable
thing.’’
Once again in District’s
budget there is provision for
the establishment of a
ministry to the retarded of
the Province.
Lightning strikes
Lightning struck the tower
at the Lutheran church Mon
day afternoon. Fortunately
there was no fire.

minor surgery on his hand
last week at University
hospital, London.
