Times-Advocate, 1979-05-24, Page 24Bishop brings message Special youth service Page 8A Times-Advocate, May 24, 1979 Revival centre is officially dedicated After months of planning, building, and finishing work, the new sanctuary and facilities of Lucan Revival Centre were dedicated Monday evening, May 14. The Dedication Service was preceded by a week end of special services. Saturday afternoon May 12, the young people led by Rick Brewster, assistant pastor, had a youth service in the new church. Several young people of the church ministered in music. Rev. Members of the Lucan Women’s Institute held their May meeting in the Masonic Hall Wednesday evening with vice-president Mrs. Glen Haskett presiding. The roll call was answered by giving the reply to “What makes you happiest?” and the motto “Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be!” was taken by Mrs. Jack Rad­ cliffe. A card of thanks was read from the McGuffin family for the gift of a Gideon Bible and a few moments of silence was observed for a valued member, Mrs. Hannah McGuffin. Mrs. Jack Radcliffe and Mrs. Murray Hodgson were appointed to attend the training days at the Canadian Red Cross, the first to be on Friday, June 1., In view of the November Blood Donors’ Clinic to be sponsored again this year by the Lucan Branch, this training should prove most valuable. Following repeating of their pledge they pressed flowers which they had brought from home in books, and made tea biscuits over anopen fire, Exercises were enjoyed followed by races on obstacle courses and timed running. It sounds as though members of this club will be in good shape following its completion. As only two members of the trio were able to come, Bruce Thomson, son of Rev. F. Thomson of Willowdale, and Carmina Bassin, formerly of Switzerland, now of Willowdale, sang, ac­ companied by their guitars. Bruce also led in worship choruses, then all joined in a time of praise and worship. Their music was a real blessing and inspiration. Rev. Jim Eby, the guest speaker, spoke on “Why is Jesus Different, and Why Follow Him?” Reasons Rev. Eby gave were His theme “Each generation makes its own accounting to its children” (Robert F. Kennedy) and on “Tweedsmuir History.” There were 600 delegates who shared in this most interesting conference coming from all over Ontario. One member had to be brought out to the bus by motorboat because of floods in her area in Northern Ontario. Mrs. L. Ashton, a delegate to the district annual Tuesday in Komoka also gave her report on the ac­ tivities of the day in which 13 branches took part. The Annual will be held in Lucan in 1980. Brewster led in chorus Holy Spirit Thou Art Welcome in This Place. Rev. F. P. Thomson, First Assistant Superintendent read the Dedicatory responses, and led in the Dedication. Lunch was served fellowship hall after service. Tuesday May 15, featured a musical evening by the Couriers Trio. The Couriers travel all across U.S.A, and Canada, singing in churches from small churches to large halls, accepting what the people are able to give to them for expenses. They are interested only in ministering to the people and miracles; born of a virgin; God His Father; His life; and His death resurrection. A lunch was served by members of the Women’s auxiliary to the young people at 5 p.m. in the new church fellowship hall. Sunday May 13, Mother’s Day, featured special music by choral group Praise Song at start of the service. Again Bruce Thomson and Carmina Bassin of Freedom Trio ministered in song. Rev. Jim Eby taught a new chorus Holy Spirit Come. His message was Gaining a Proper Self Image through a right relationship with Jesus Christ. He used Scripture readings from Mark; Genises and Jeremiah. After the morning service the Women’s Auxiliary hosted a fellowship dinner served in Fellowship Hall. All foot! was potluck supplied by members of • the congregation. Rev. Jim Eby again was guest speaker in the evening service. Dedication Service-- Monday in the new sanc­ tuary of Lucan Revival Centre. Rev. Ray Brewster opened the service to a full building. The Couriers Trio from Harrisburg, Pa., were the guest singers, with their beautiful music. They an­ nounced Rev. R. Brewster was going to be one of them for one song, “How Great ; Thou Art”, much to his surprise. ■ Bishop H. superintendent Pentecostal Church, gave the dedicatory message. His message was about building a house for the Lord; 2 Chronicles 2:3-6, dedicating the house to the Glory of God; Let the building be a house for worship. Let it also enhance the will of God for His people. Challenge to give attention to worship God; to be aware of needs; to let God work in and through you personally; The community has a right to the church knowing it s people are there and will minister to their Prayer of in the Nunn, of the Holiness both in song and worship. They have been singing together for 24 years. Their music is a great blessing. David Kyllonen told the story of how the Samaritan woman met Jesus at the well and had her life changed, made a new then went out to bring others to Jesus. That is what Jesus can do for us. The Couriers are David Kyllonen, Neil Enloe, and Dwayne Nicholson. The special services were a very special climax to the building program of the church. To get the building and grounds ready everyone helped who was able. The week just before the services new shrubs were planted, and sod laid to enhance the new building.
