She opened with a poem, “When God created Mothers.” The topic was taken by Mrs. Eleanor Mansfield who showed a film, “One such child.” In it the needs,rights, nurture, living conditions, learning and education, social interaction and the Realm of God in the Child’s life were explored. The film was based on the text, “Suffer the little children to come unto Me.” Following the topic, Kay gave another reading and 11 members answered the roll call with their holiday plans. The devotional was led by Mrs. Dianna Brock who read an article from a back number of the U.C. Obser­ ver, “In praise of Motherhood.” This was humorous but brought home the devotion needed to make a good mother. Mrs. Diane Gerstenkorn conducted the business, reading an invitation ex­ tended by Brucefield. . join their meeting - the bus trip to U.C. Headquarters on June 13 will leave at 7 a.m.; at the General meeting on June 4, Unit two is to provide the lunch and also the flowers in the church during July. Amber Lodge Meets Noble Grand Mrs. Hazel Corbett presided for the meeting of Amber Rebekah Lodge on Wednesday evening assisted by the vice­ grand Mrs. Elizabeth Riley. A very gratifying report was given from the dessert euchre and bake sale held recently. Following the items of business lodge closed in regular form. Youngsters indentifiable include Jason Laurin, Steven Parker, Sarach Darling and Frederick Goldbolt The children were visiting at the farm of John McAllister, of RR 1, Hensall. 7.4 photo Welcome, birthdays at Queensway home J Funeral for Mrs. Parsons Mrs. Almeda Martha Parsons (Finkbeiner) of Hibbert Township passed away at Queensway Nursing Home, Hensall on Saturday May 19,1979 in her 87th year. She was the widow of the late William Robert Parsons and mother of Robert Parsons of R.R. 2 Staffa. Also survived by a sister Mrs. Herb (Lillian) Jones, Hensall and three grandchildren. Predeceased by five sisters and two brothers. Funeral service was held from the Bonthron Funeral Home on Tuesday May 22 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Stan McDonald officiating. The theme was on “Mother’s Day”. Mrs. Glen Nixon and Mrs. Don Volland were hostesses and served refreshments when social hour was enjoyed. Conducts first service Rev. Stan McDonald conducted his first service in Hensall United Church on Sunday, taking as his ser­ mon, “Beginning our pilgrimage together.” Jesus, by taking a drink of water from the Samaritan woman demonstrated how old values and ways can change, a new consciousness is born and co­ operation from ultimate goal. The choir, directorship Marianne McCaffrey, sang “Holy, Holy, Holy” Mrs. Mary Moffatt at the organ. Flowers adorning the Sanctuary were in memory of Rick Bowers and Stewart Bell, placed there by their respective families. Next Sunday will be Anniversary Sunday when Rev. McDonald will conduct the service, and special music will be provided. The Hensall United Church Ladies entertained the residents with bingo and treats. High bowling score last week: ladies’ Aleeta Kats and Edna Hume with a score of 84. The men’s high score last week was Neil Regan with a 122 score. Ladies’ high score this week was Aleeta Kats with a score of 93 Men’s high score was Neil Regan with a score of 110. Minister inducted The Induction service for the Rev. Stan McDonald was held at the Hensall United Church on Wednesday evening, with Rev. Bob McMullen of Brucefield conducting the service and Rev. John Oestreicher of Clinton preaching the in­ duction sermon,. Hensall church has an open door to opportunity it is up to the members to be part of the on­ going purpose of God. The Induction was con- ducted by Rev. Harold Knisley and after the service the Rev. Stan McDonald closed the service with the Benediction. A social hour was enjoyed in the Fellowship Hall to give all a chance to meet their new minister. Spring rally at Carmel Pat Nell her The annual Spring Rally of the Presbyterial WMS was held in Carmel Presbyterian Church on Wednesday with the President Mrs. Robert McAllister presiding. She gave an interesting report of the Council meeting which she attended at York College, Toronto. Items of business were looked after, WMS groups attended from Auburn, Belgrave, Seaforth, Goderich and Hensall. The Seaforth WMS were in charge of the worship. Mrs. Malcolm Dougall and Mrs. Edith Bell played a piano instrumental. Mrs. Don Robertson, Ripley President of the Maitland Presbyterial was the guest speaker and spoke on “Who Are You?” and “What Are You Doing Here?” Her address was most interesting and in­ formative.
