JIM BICKER CONSTRUCTION DASHWOOD 237-3526 Want clean-up in Hensail It was cleanup time at Hensall council Monday with the Bendix Number One plant, Omega Contractors and the village asked to do something about the un-tidy appearance of the village. Councillor Klaus Van Wieren raised the matter saying he was dis-satisfied with the condition of the streets that had been torn up in the winter for the in stallation of the storm sewer. Reeve Harold Knight suggested the village’s engineers contact Omega to see what could be done about the streets’ condition. Van Wieren suggested that the village’s main street should be swept every two weeks until paving is in stalled. Works superintendent Gary Maxwell said the town of Exeter sweeper could do the job in less than two hours. Council at Van Wieren’s request will ask the Bendix plarit which fronts on High way 4 to keep their property clean. The village learned that a proposed cleaning of the main branch of the Black Creek drain will cost the village slightly over $3,000 out of a total expenditure of $101,000. Knight and councillor Harry Klungel will attend a meeting Thursday in Zurich called the by Hay township to discuss the proposed cleaning. Jokingly, Klungel asked if the drain really needed to be cleaned. “It all goes away eventually, doesn’t it?” In other business, council: Learned Drysdale Appliances will be con structing a new building on the site where the former Bill Fuss Plumbing building was located. Received notification from the ministry of tran sportation and com munications that a* subsidy payment of $37,500 was on the way. Dzus agreed with councillor Paul Neilands that the village already has much parkland but he did point out it was concentrated on the south side. A section covering agricultural land within the village was modified to specifically exclude inten sive agriculture operations such as livestock. The use of land within the village for food production will con tinue to be permitted, Dzus explained. Residents will continue to be allowed to operate businesses out of their own homes, it was decided at the hour and a half meeting with the Huron county planner. Neilands echoed the sen timents of council when he said “You’ve got to have a few freedoms left.” Dzus said there were many uses operating from a home that could be objec tionable but partially agreed with building inspector Her man Van Wieren who asked if a good property standards bylaw would not help control the situation.
