McCurdy School are busy rehearsing for their operetta “Rumpelstiltskin”. The group will be making their performance on Wednesday May 16 at 7:00 p.m. at the McCurdy School. Admission is $2. The Huron Park girls juvenile softball team will be practising at the ball diamond at 6:30 p.m. this Wednesday May 9. Any girls between the ages of 13 and 19 interested in playing softball in a league are welcome to come out to practice Wed­ nesday evening. We are still trying to organize a girls pee wee team from the Park. Any girls aged 9,1011 and 12 who have not yet registered for softball should drop by the Resource Centre and register or call 228-6302 So far we only have seven girls registered. If no more interest is shown before May 15 we will have to pull our entry out of the league so please get your names in as soon as possible. Card Parties, run by the Opti-Mrs. have been can­ celled due to lack of interest. The Huron Park Brownies are holding a rummage sale Saturday May 26 at 10 a.m. at the McCurdy School. “Now’s a good time to start cleaning out the drawers and saving some articles for the brownies.” The Block Parent program has now started in Dash­ wood, Crediton and the surrounding rural com­ munity. Anyone still in­ terested should call Mr. Finkbeiner, principal of Stephen Central or the Resource Centre at 228-6302 to fill out application forms. They were married April 15, 1929, in St. Peter’s Parish with her brother Rev. Fr. J. I. Ducharme officiating. Their attendants, Mr. & Mrs. Victor Denomme of Michigan and Mrs. Lillie Roche and Mr. Robt. Ruby were also present for this joyous occasion. The couple have lived on the 14th concession of Hay township for over 40 years. They have six children, Jerome and Leo Paul of London and Marie Theresa (Mrs. Paul Cyr) of Zurich, Bernadette (Mrs. Lionel Cyr) RR 1 Dashwood, Anthony of Windsor and Andre of RR 2 Zurich. They have six wonderful in-laws and 24 grandchildren. They received a Special Papal Blessing and Best Wishes and congratulations from Trudeau MPP Jack Riddell, MPP Robt. McKinley and from Gov. Gen. Ed Schreyer. They celebrated by having a Mass of Thanksgiving and approximately 200 guests, coming from California, Calgary, Ottawa, Toronto, Fort Erie and surrounding districts enjoyed a delicious dinner at the Hensail District Community Centre. Later a larger crowd joined them for the reception where music was supplied by Mrs. Phoebe Tiede. The evening was greatly enjoyed by all! Miss Molly McGhee, the Director of Home Economics Branch, Ministry of Agriculture and Food was pleased with the increased enquiries regar­ ding food preservation, nutrition, and the quality of foods. This shows the need for the service of this Branch. In 1981 it will be the “International Year of the Disabled Persons” which effects 10% of the population of Ontario and she asked the Women’s Institute to become involved in this project. The Department of Home Economics continues to provide excellent training for the 4-H leaders and senior courses which is a service that makes available unlimited learning for thousands each year in the Province. The Women’s Institute with its interest in Educa­ tion, presented 13 awards to students at the college of Family and Consumer Studies at Guelph as well as the county awards throughout the Province. The Junior Women’s Institute is growing across the Province said Linda Tottenham and Ruth McCur­ dy, the Junior Board Direc­ tors. As the Federated Women’s Institute of On­ tario celebrates its 60th an­ niversary this year with a reunion for past and present board directors, executives and special guests, the Federated Women’s Institute of Canada will also celebrate its Diamond Jubilee at the national con­ vention in Saskatoon in June. Many are planning to attend from Ontario. Members are urged to at­ tend the official opening of the addition to the Adelaide Hoodless Homestead on June 1 from 2 to 4 p.m. Don’t forget the special events at the Erland Lee (Museum) Home at Stoney Creek. Mrs. Margaret Zoeller, the chairman of the com­ mittee spoke of the demonstrations and displays that will be ready for W.I. week June 5 to 8 and for Canada Week. These two homes are important for the Founding of the Women’s Institute not only for Ontario but around the world. Many other items of business were dealt with in­ cluding the plans for enter­ taining the ladies from Staf­ fordshire, England who are coming in September on an exchange visit; the rest booth at the Royal Winter Fair; Resolutions; a con­ sumer awareness of ad­ ditives and nutrition and a candidate for the Ontario Agricultural Hall of Fame. It was announced Sovereign Grand Lodge sessions will be held in Toronto, September 15-19 in 1980. Also that Grand Lodge and Rebekah Assembly banquet will be held June 20 in the Royal York. It was voted to supply banquet tickets for the scholar and representative. The district church service was held in Wesley Willis Church, Clinton, Sunday, May 6. There will be a dessert euchre and bake sale in Hensall Lodge Hall, Wednesday, May 9, at 1.30 p.m. Brothers night will be held May 16 and the birthday party will be held June 6. There willbea picnic, date to be set later. First nominations were held. Following Lodge there was a display of many beautiful crafts after which a dainty lunch was served.
