The Lucan youngsters scored a 6-4 victory over Colborne at the Lucan Com munity Centre to take the seventh and deciding game and the provincial title. Previously each team had won three games all on home ice. Lucan took a commanding 4-1 lead at the end of the first period only to have Colborne come back with a good second period perfor mance to cut the lead to a single goal. The Irish team came out FOR INFORMATION in South Huron Phone 235-1834 We Need More Big Brothers Now! strongly for the final 20 minutes and scored two goals in a space of 43 seconds early in the period to make their margin on the scoreboard a little more comfortable. The first two Lucan goals also came close together. Paul Medd opened the scor ing at 7:26 on a three-way ef fort with Jeff Hartman and Brian Murray and 26 seconds later he hit the mark again. This time Jim Hayter and Jeff Hartman provided the passing assistance. Exactly two minutes later Kevin Gilmour put his Lucan club up by 3-0 as he finished off a fine passing combination with Tony Clarke and Kyle Pederson. The first scoring spurt for Colborne came at 13:23 from the stick of Peter William son on an unassisted effort. It took Lucan only 35 seconds to get the three goal margin back again. Brian Murray was the marksman on a play started by Paul Medd and Bob Hodgins. All of the second period scoring was taken care of by Colborne. Ron Pillsworth beat Dan Sceli in the Lucan net at 6:39 of the middle stanza with assists going to Paul McCracken and Jay Mills and the latter found the scoring range only 30 seconds later as he con verted passes from Peter Williams and Ron Pillsworth. Kyle Pederson made the home folks a little happier as he blasted the puck into the Colborne net at 6:03 of the third period. The assist went to Ken McManus. The fans had hardly settl ed down when they found another chance to cheer. Only 40 seconds later, Ken McManus was in the right place to put the puck into the net and Lucan ahead by 6-3. Assisting on what proved to be the insurance goal were Tom McGorman and Kyle Pederson. . Colborne applied plenty of pressure in the time remain ing but could come up with only one goal. It came at 15:26 from the stick of Stephen Jones with Paul McCracken and Ron Pillsworth assisting. Referees John Willsie and Glenn Beach handed out 14 minor penalties to Lucan and 11 of the same variety to Colborne and they kept the game well in hand. The only serious sign of an incident came in the last five minutes when Jay Mills of Colborne resisted being restrained by the officials and grappled with Glenn Beach at the side of the Lucan net. Mills threw Beach to the ice and put a leglock on him and it took several minutes to get the two disengaged. Mills ended up with a match penalty. The championship trophy was presented to the Lucan club at the end of the game by OHA representative Jim Draper of London. The Lucan club was handl ed very capably all season long by manager Jim Herr, coach Ron Carruthers and trainer Keith Connolly. Saturday’s game drew a crowd in excess of 1,000. The paid attendance was listed at 880 and all school children were admitted free. ELIMVILLE WOAA Bantam Boys Softball Organization Meeting April 26, 1979 8:00 P.M. ELIMVILLE TWP.
