The draw on the box of groceries Dear Friend, On April 7, the fifteenth annual Elmira Maple Syrup Festival was to have taken place. However, April 6 brought our area this win ter’s worst sorm, with blocked roads, zero visibility, and hydro outages. The Festival had to be cancelled! This cancellation brought some very strong reaction. One youngster summed it up with “They can’t cancel the Festival — that’s like can celling Christmas”, Consequently it has been rescheduled for Saturday, April 28. The Festival program on April 28 will be essentially the same as originally planned — with one ex ception. The sugar-bush tours will likely be replaced by tours to various farms in our area. Sincerely yours, M. E. Duke Publicity Chairman Elmira Maple Syrup Festival Committee Show and other points of interest. Church news At the United Church Rev. Elwood Morden conducted the Sunday service and took the theme for his sermon from John 20, 19-20, relating to the day after the Resurrection when the Disciples had gone into seclusion behind closed doors for fear of the Jews, and Jesus appeared to them, and said “Peace be unto you”. Jesus is still saying these words to you and me, said Rev. Morden who en titled his message “When you have doubts”. At St. Thomas Anglican Church, Rev. Mary Mills was in charge of the worship, and took her sermon from the 5th chapter of St. John, saying, Easter is the celebration of Hope, Faith and Belief. Easter is also the celebration of victory over Death. By our Faith sup ported by our knowledge of Christ we attain the Victory which overcometh the World.
