After over 25 years of worshipping in the church building that was built by the men of the church at that time, the congregation of Lucan Revival Centre had the pleasure of worshipping in their new facilities, a fine new church built just behind the old building. The new sanctuary was ready April 1. For the first service that morning the sanctuary was over half full. All the church services are now held in the new sanc tuary. From the first service there has been a fine spirit of worship in all the services. Again the \men of the congregation have been hard at work completing the work on the new building. Rev. Peter Poot, of Christianview Bible College of Ailsa Craig, has been in charge of painting crews. Under his able supervision the Sunday School rooms, as well as all finished rooms and halls have been painted. The Saturday before using the new sanctuary the young people helped the adult workers in a cleanup of all the facilities. Having such a lovely new place of worship has given the congregation the room they needed. From the spacious lobby to the new sanctuary seating there is room without the crowding of the old church. The new sanctuary will seat 300 people. There are now the rooms needed for the Sunday School classes, Junior Church, and a nursery: A well equipped kitchen is being made ready for service in the basement, off a spacious fellowship room. Many special events are now being planned for the first of Johnny Gospel Sunday new facilities. The these will be the Cash film “The Road” on Easter night at 7:00 p.m. The public is cordially invited to all services at Lucan Revival Centre. The Grand Opening ser vices for the new facilities are set for May 12-15. The dedication service will be held on Monday May 14. The Couriers Trio from Harrisburg Pennsylvania will be present for the adedication and also for Gospel Concert May 15. • Ready to register at nursery school St. Patricks day at the Lucan and District Co-op Nursery School was celebrated by the wearing of green and the children trying their hand at making green pudding. Friday night the final games were played as Hagen’s Hackers won the “A” championship 6-5 in over time against the Blues and Salon 174 captured the “B” championship with a 5-3 victory over the Greens. The banquet Saturday night ended a very successful season as team and in dividual trophies were given out. In the “A” championship game the Hackers took a 4-3 lead into the final game and then tied the last game 2-2 to win the series 6-5. The vic tory wasn’t an easy one though as the first two periods went scoreless and it wasn’t until the 8 minute mark of the third that a goal was scored. Bill Boshart put the Blues in front 1-0 as he drifted a hard shot over Hacker’s goalie Chuck Fredin’s shoulder after taking a pass from Don Lankin which sent him into Hacker territory. Chris Mouritzen put the Blues ahead 2-0 as he scored a minute later from the slot area and that put the Blues ahead 5-4 in total goals. Gary Revington’s goal with 46 seconds left in regulation time came after goalie Fredin had been pulled from the net and the Blues had two men in the sin bin giving the Hackers, a 6-3 manpower advantage in the final minute. This tied the two game total at 5-5 which set up the overtime period. Overtime was to be played for 10 minutes and if the score remained tied there would have been a shoot out. But the shoot out wasn’t necessary as Aaron Appleman took a centering pass from Mike Wraith and put it past Blues goalie Phil Vousden with only 24 seconds remaining. The win gave the Hackers the “A” trophy that was dedicated to this years president, Bill Carnochan, who played for the Hackers. Blue’s goalie, Phil Vousden, who faced 34 shots, 17 in the third period, was the No. 1 star as.he turned in his best game ever. Wraith^and ^Revington v^ereJ.the other stars. ’ •’ During the first period’ Blue’s defenceman, Willy Feke, crashed into the boards and suffered a broken leg. All his teammates and opponents alike wish him a speedy recovery. The regular season champions, Salon 174, also won the “B” championship as they defeated the Greens 5-3 in the two game total goal series. Salon 174 won the • opening game 2-0 and then tied the final 3-3 to give them the victory. Don Murray gave the Greens an early 1-0 first period lead after 174 goalie Keith Ewer, made theinitial breakaway save but the rebound went into the corner from where Murray shot the banked it off a 174 defender. The Green lead was taken away after Brad Taylor scored a shorthanded goal in the last minute of the first period. Brett Fairweather’s second period goal put Salon 174 ahead as he converted a pass from Jim Thomas from in front of the net. Green’s Gary Miller tied the game at 2 as he put the disc behind Ewer while parked in front of the net. Thomas scored early into the third to give 174 a 3-2 lead but only for 5 minutes when Murray scored his 2nd goal of the game to tie it up at 3-3. The 3-3 tie coupled with 174’s 2-0 previous win gave the series 5-3. Thomas Murray and Marty Wraith were the three stars. Saturday night the rec league held its banquet and all team and individual trophies were awarded. P resident Bill Carnochan and vice-president Bill Boshart presented the league championship trophy to Salon 174, The trophy which was named after Boshart was given to 174’s captain, George Ewer and coach Gary Manders.
