Proceeds for U.C.W. 8c Last Monday, Mr. Dennis Tottenham, from the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, presented us with a film and talked to us about what to do when you meet a blind person, We learned that blind people fold each bill a different way so that they know which bill they are using when they pay for a purchase., Mr. Tottenham’s sight is limited. He can see your outline but not your features at twenty feet. He told us about braille, talking calculators and books. When he is reading he uses strong glasses and a magnifying glass. Twenty dollars was donated by our Student Council to help other blind adults and children. We are grateful to Mr. and Mrs. Tietz for arranging Mr. Tottenham’s visit to our school. On Tuesday night, both boys and girls basketball teams played against Adelaide. The boys lost by a score of 27-17 and the girls were at the low end of a 12-8 score. Thursday night, Mark Steeper scored twelve points to lead our boys to a 22-14 victory over the boys’ team from Sacred Heart, Parkhill. Warren Kellestine chalked up six points and John Austin four to help the McGillivray boys win their second league game. In the Middlesex County Public Speaking contest which is sponsored by elementary, secondary and separate school Teachers’ Federations along with the Middlesex County Board of Education, Mary Ann Parkinson placed third. Paul Jamieson of East Williams and Tracey Dixon of Parkhill will represent our area at the public speaking finals at Medway in early March. Mary Ann Parkinson and Catherine Lynn will represent McGillivray on February 28 when the Crediton Men’s Club spon sors its public speaking competition.
