Birthday congratulations were also extended to Liz Conlin and Agnes Hotson. Members of the Sunshine and Busy Buddies groups held their regular meeting Thursday, with the room decorated in honour of St. Valentine and also to honour our “Birthday Girl” of 92 years, Miss Agnes Nor­ thgraves, who was presented with a shower of cards. Mrs. Kooy, the president welcomed members and thanked the lunch com­ mittee, Glpdys Atkinson, Margaret Allen, Kay and Ed Armstrong. It was decided to buy a Fun night enjoyable The Lucan Home, School and Community Association sponsored another enjoyable evening on “Fun Night” for the children of the Biddulph- Lucan Schools. It was held in the Biddulph Building, Thursday evening, February 5. Many of the classrooms were used for games in­ cluding fish pond, basket toss, bingo, films, penny sale, white elephant and sale of home baking. The gym­ nasium was the Dance hall. A food booth capably run by Mrs. Pike (wife of the president) and Dorothy and Peter Knott, kept the hungry people filled with hot dogs, chips, coffee, doughnuts and pop. Many happy children went home with door prizes donated.by locai merchants. A beautifully decorated cake donated by Aleda McCombs was won by Barbara Avery. kazoo and Jewish harp for use in the club and to leave the rug shampooing until the meetings conclude in June. A note of thanks was read from Dora Thompson for the plant and cards. Mrs. Thompson had the misfor­ tune of falling and breaking her wrist earlier in the week. The “giant” euchre was announced for Friday, March 9, please note change of date, sponsored by the Lucan-Biddulph Branch of the Canadian Cancer Society. It will be held in St. Patrick’s School com­ mencing at 8 p.m. with good prizes, door prizes and bus transportation from both Lucan and Granton, for senior citizens, provided by Murphy Lines with driver, Gary McFalls who is also donating his time. Admission is $1.00 bus is free, and leaves the Masonic hall at 7.30. Two minor accidents Only two accidents were investigated this week by officers of the Lucan detach­ ment of the Ontario Provincial Police. Thursday at 11.50 a.m. vehicles driven by Donna Dempsey and James Keays, both of London collided on County road 20. Constable C.S. Fleming listed damages at $2,000. Constable James Craig estimated damages at $1,100 when vehicles driven by John Bell, London and Allan White, Brussels were in collision at 2.30 p.m. Friday on Highway 4 in McGillivray township. A singsong was enjoyed by the members with Muriel Cobleigh at the piano. Euchre prizes were won as follows: High lady, Margaret Allen; lone hands, Marie Lamphier; low, Ann Kish: High man, playing a man’s card, Mildred Hirtzel, as was the low, Angeline Scott. Man’s lone hands prize was won by Tom Kooy. HOT DOG SERVERS — The busiest persons at the Lucan Legion Saturday were the ladies who served hot dogs to the many youngsters enjoying snowmobile rides. Bring your own containers CRUNICAN BROS. 1 ]/2 miles south of Elginfield 4-H meet The three Lucan 4-H Clubs held their third meetings this week, Club 1 the “Nutritious Nuts," at the home of Sandra Hartman, Tuesday evening, Club 2, the “Healthy Hillbillies” at the home of Rene Norton and Club 3 “The Metric Munchers” at the home of Christine Geertsen, both Wednesday evening. Each club made “White sauce a la Metric” and this was used in making Potato Cheese Chowder. Demon­ strators in these two recipes were Christine Geertsen, Brenda Heddington, Cathy Mitchell and Annette Straatman. Jennifer Degraw demonstrated Peanut Butter and carrot spread for the Nutritious Nuts, all the Healthy Hillbillies par­ ticipated for their club and Jane Straatman for the “Metric Munchers.” In each case they were advised that for variation apples could be used in place of carrots. Club 2 used their spread on the peanut butter bread from last meeting. The roll call for the “Nutritious Nuts” was to give their favourite break­ fast. This group also zeroed in ori luncheon menus, types of sandwiches and things that complemented different luncheon dishes. Their next meeting will be held February 27 at the home of Debbie Manders. The Healthy Hillbillies will also meet on the 27th at 7 p.m. at the home of Nancy VanGeel. The Metric Munchers enjoyed a Valentine game and their next meeting will be held February 28 at the home of Tami McRoberts. All groups are skipping one week in order to be guests with the Lucan Women’s Institute this evening, Wednesday at 7.30 in the Lower Masonic Hall. By PAUL WRAITH In this weeks Lucan rec league hockey games Salon 174 (Reds) defeated the Hagen Hackers (Yellows) 3- 2 and the Greens won their second straight game of defeating the Blues 6-5. The Greens started quick­ ly and established the flow of the game early as Bruce Reid scored seconds after the opening faceoff. Gord Moon built the Green lead to 2-0 as he finished off a two on one break but Lee Richards brought the Blues back within one as he scored on a similar situation. Moon put the Greens up two again just before the period ended. The teams traded goals in the second, one by Chris Mouratzen for the Blues and Don Murray replying for the Greens. In the third period the Blues again pulled within one as Richards scored his second goal of the game but the Greens scored two goals to expand their lead to 6-3 as Don Murray scored his se­ cond of the game and Moon completed his hattrick. The Blues scored two goals in the last 30 seconds but their comeback was too late. Mouratzen scored his second goal of the game and Scouts parade at St. Patrick's To celebrate Scout-guide week, members of the Lucan Beaver Colony, Brownies and Cub packs and the guide and scout troupes held a Church parade at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Sunday. The colour party included Belinda Avery and Heather Blay for the brownie packs, Steven Gibbs for the cubs, Lori Shumka and Miriam Steffans for the guides and Robert Vandervenne for the scouts. The Lay speaker was Mrs. T. Vandenberg, the first Lesson was read by Jeanette Steffens of the guide troupe and the second Lesson by Marius Vandenberg of the scout troupe. The visiting clergy and guest speaker was Father James deWitt, a member of the White Fathers’ group, speaking on Missions and representing the M.I.V.A. (Missionary Vehicle Association). He told the young’ people and the members of St. Patricks’ of his work in many of the Mission Fields. The choir led by Frank Heenan presented several selections • Wl meets tonight Members of the Lucan W.I. are reminded of their meeting tonight, Wed­ nesday, in the Masonic Hall, at 7.30 p.m. when the 4-H club members, their mothers and leaders will be special guests. Mrs. Joanne (Johnson) Pickering, Public Health Nurse, will be the guest speaker emphasizing “The Year of the Child.” The business meeting will follow lunch at this particular meeting, so our ydung guests may get away early. Daryl Wheat tied the game at one each in the second period but then Salon 174 went ahead 2-1 on Brad Taylor’s short handed goal. Hill tied it at two apiece with his second goal but Andy Hardy scored the winner in the third as he took a pass in the slot and put it away. Salon 174’s goalie Keith Ewer was the first, star, Dave Hill the second and Hacker’s goalie, Chuck Fredin, third. For the men, Wes Hickson had 598 for the Fire Eaters, Harold Mayo with 695 led the Bar Six and Don Watt had 639 for the Sixty-Niners.
