Mrs. MalcolmDougall was hostess on Tuesday af­ ternoon for the W.M.S. of Carmel Presbyterian Church with the president Mrs. Harvey Hyde presiding and opening with a mediatation on “Guidan­ ce”. Mrs. C. Volland was in charge of the program assisted by Mrs. M. Dougall- -using an article from the Glad Tidings on an interview with Paul Chan. Mrs. Edith Bell favoured with a piano instrumental. During the business, Mrs. Hyde gave a report of the Presbyterial held in Seaforth. The Synodical will be held in Knox Presbyterian Church, Goderich April 10 and 11-further plans will be made regarding it. The World’s Day of Prayer Service will be held in Carmel Church Friday March 2 at 2.30 p.m. Rev. T. Garnet Husser will be the guest speaker. A letter of thanks was read from the Queensway Nur­ sing Home. Members were reminded to save Zehrs check-out slips in support of the dock at Camp Kintail. The March meeting will be in charge of Mrs, R. Faber. Mrs. C. Volland presided for the meeting of the 4-H Club Meets The second meeting of the 4-H Club “The End Results” was held at the home of Mrs. Gerstenkorn on Tuesday February 13. The meeting opened with the theme and roll call. The officers are: president, Starr Jesney; vice-president, Linda Zwann; treasurer, Linda Gerstenkorn; secretary, Laurie Pepper; press reporter, Patty Lenting; leader Mrs. Gerstenkorn; assistant leader, Sandra Nixon. The group discussed the garments they were going to make also a skit they will have. The hall was decorated in keeping with the Valentine meeting by the convener, Mrs. Laird Mickle, who accompanied at the piano for the singing. Following the roll call, minutes and business, a card of thanks was read from the Kippen East Women’s Institute. A discussion took place over the anniversary of the organization and it,was decided to make the April meeting which is to be a smorgasbord supper at 6.30 p.m,, the anniversary meeting which is to be arranged by the executive. Owing to the April meeting falling on April 10 which is Holy week it was decided to hold it one week earlier, April 3. The March meeting as usual with the entertainment committee, Mr. & Mrs. Harold Parker and Mr. Elgin Rowcliffe. The social committee is Mr. & Mrs. Bert Horton and Mrs. Annie Reid. Progressive euchre was played with following prize winners: ladies’ high Mrs. Ruby Bell; gent’s high, Clarence Volland; lone hands, Mrs. Madeline Harburn; door prize, Mrs. Alice Ferg; lucky cup, Elgin Rowcliffe. The entertainment committee was’ Mrs. Laird Mickle, Mrs. Edgar Munn, Mrs. Gertie Moir. The social committee was Mr. & Mrs. Clarence Volland and Mrs. Vera Brintnell. Unit2 Hensall U.C.W. Mrs. Harry Hoy opened the February meeting of Unit 2 of the U.C.W. of Hensall United Church with a poem “God Knows Best” Mrs. Ron Mock presented the topic on “Human Rights”. She chose the chapter about the native people of Canada. Mrs. Ron Wareing was in charge of the Devotional using as her theme “The Praying Hands.” Mrs. Hoy introduced Mrs. William Fink who displayed and explained many in­ teresting crafts. Following this a social hour was en­ joyed by all. Choir Sponsor Social ' Rev. Kenneth Knight conducted service in Carmel Presbyterian Church on Sunday-the sermon was Training for the Christian’s Race. Mrs. Taylor presided at the piano. The Choir are sponsoring a “Crokinole Social” on Friday February 23 at 8 p.m. in the school room. Everyone is invited to this social evening. Mabelle Whiteman Passes Miss Mabelle Whiteman, formerly of Kippen died in Huronview on Tuesday, February 13 in her 96th year. Survived by her niece Miss Margaret Whiteman of Islington; nephews, Paul Whiteman, Illinois; and ' Miller McConnell Penn­ sylvania. Funeral service was held from the Bonthron Funeral Home, Hensall, on Thursday February 15 at '3 p.m. Rev. Robert McMullen officiating. Burial in Hensall Union Cemetery. Institute Euchre The Hensall Women’s Institute held a most suc­ cessful euchre party in the Legion Hall on Valentine evening-the hall being decorated for the occasion. The president, Mrs. Cecil Pepper and her committee were in charge. Twelve tables played with prize winners as follows: ladies’ high, Mrs. Elizabeth Riley; ladies consolation, Mrs. Leona Parke; gent’s high, Mike Connolly; gent’s consolation, Brian,Bowman; lone hands, Mrs. Art McCallum; draw for a ham, Brian Bowman; bag of sugar, Mrs. Grace Drum­ mond. A social followed when lunch was served. Persona Is Mr. & Mrs. Bert Horton spent the week end at the home of their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Bruce Horton and family, Clinton. Mr. & Mrs. Ralph Holland, Gwen and Michael of Clinton were recent visitors with Mr. & Mrs. James Sangster and Brad. dJiiiiiilliliiiiil The Light Touch Hensall Juveniles eliminated Drayton, beating them two straight games to advance to the W.O.A.A. final against Teeswater. The first game of the best out of three series was played Friday night in Hen­ sall. Hensall won 8-0. Darrell Preszcator scored Hensall’s first goal in the first period assisted by Rob Pryde and Rob Willert. In the second period Hen­ sall scored three goals in three minutes. The first off the stick of Bryan Baker assisted by Jim Willert. A minute later Danny Taylor scored assisted by Pryde. Then Rob Willert scored assisted by Taylor. To end the scoring for the second period. Just 28 seconds into the third period Steve Grainger slapped in a goal assisted by Ron May and Grant Love. With two minutes left in the game Hensall scored three more goals. The first scored by Rob Willert assisted by Paul Bell and Bryan Baker, then, Ron May scored on assists by Pryde and Taylor. Steve Grainger ended the scoring with only 14 seconds left assisted by Grant Love and Jim Willert. The strong defensive play of Dennis and Darrell Presz­ cator, Bob Mommersteeg and Jim Willert helped Steve Sararas earn his shutout. Sunday afternoon Hensall travelled to Drayton for the final game in the series win­ ning 5-2, Bryan Baker opened the scoring picking up a pass from Steve Sararas and skating over the blue line blasting a hard shot past the Drayton goalie. Drayton scored the next Miss Robyn McLellan of Kippen passed Grade 7 piano of the Royal Conservatory of music. »_z:_____:...
