By MRS. E. SUMMERS
GRANTON
Unit I met at home of Mrs^
Glen Jameson on Monday
with Mr$. Gordon McRobert
presiding. The scripture was
read and this tied in with the
theme of the lesson thoughts
on building a way to Heaven.
Three announcements
were made, (1) The World
Day of Prayer to be held in
Granton United on March 2
(2) The UCW Presbyterial
meeting in Trinity United
Church (3) an invitation to
attend the series of lectures
and discussions taking place
on Mondays during
February at Bryanston
United Church.
The program was con
vened by Mrs. Elmer
Summers and Mrs. Elwood
Morden. Mrs. Summers took
the Bible study on the con
tinuing series on the Lord
ship of Jesus, this day’s
subject dealt with our in
terpretation of the Bible. Do
we know what we read? and
how do we interpret what we
read? This resulted in much
discussion.
Mrs. Morden read a story
from a collection of tales by
the noted journalist Gregory
Clarke entitled “Bird of
Promise”. This was about a
robin. It was like a breath of
Spring, amid all this snow.
Lunch was served by the
hostess and her assistants,
Mrs. C. B. Westman and
Mrs. C, McRobert.
Unit 4 met at the hqme of
Mrs. Norman Riddell on
February 7. Mrs. Nelson
Tate presided.
Mrs. Harvey Kennedy who
was in charge of the
program presented a paper
on the continuing Bible Study
the Lordship of Jesus, this
version was entitled “Why
do we read the Bible?” This
was followed by a good
discussion. Mrs. Kennedy
also read a poem and a poem
in keeping with the season
was read by Mrs. Gerald
Dann entitled “Winter
Lullaby.” Mrs. James Kerr
assisted the hostess to serve
lunch.
Mrs. Jim Riddell was the
hostess for Unit 3 on
February 5. Mrs. Leroy
Bryan presided and opened
the meeting with a reading
pertaining to children, as
1979 is to be the year of the
child.
It was announced that this
Unit would again sponsor
learning classes on crochet
and needlepoint, the first
class to take place at the
church on February 22.
Mrs. Doug Brown and Mrs.
Ken Waugh were in charge
of the program on the Bible
study. This resulted in a good
discussion, with the con
clusion that the Bible was
telling us to love our neigh
bors as ourselves.
Various scripture
passages were then read and
a discussion followed on the
conservative, liberal and
radical outlook of these
passages. The hostess was
assisted with lunch by Mrs.
Garfield Nixon and Mrs.
Wm. Thomson.
Unit 5 cancelled their
meeting in February as most
of the members are from the
north of Granton and live in
the country.

phrase “Hallowed be Thy
