Lovihgly remembered and sadly missed by his wife Agnes and family, Lovingly remembered and sadly missed by all your ........ 7p In loving Dear Sir: I am protesting the closing of any more hospital beds by the Ministry of Health in On tario. It almost seems as if inanimate things are more important than living people in this so called democratic country as the government has plenty of money to spend on hockey facilities and other secondary schemes than it can afford to spend on the health and even the lives of people. I can quote several cases when personally known folk were discharged from hospital as soon as the beds were needed for other patients, causing excessive suffering to those discharg ed by having them be return ed to hospital for further treatment. Another inhuman case came to my attention last week. An elderly widow, liv ing alone, with no im mediate family, took ill and went to her doctor. He sent her to the local hospital, but on arrival there for admit tance she was told they had no bed for her. She went home and became worse with each passing hour. A couple of days later neighbours called her relatives, who im mediately brought her to the emergency department in University Hospital London, where she was admitted and put on intravenous as she was dehydrated by this time. Owing to the excellent care she received there she is now better — had she stayed at home she would have died. Is this how Ontario residents are to be treated if there are more cutbacks on beds?
