To ensure that no un necessary problems would arise, each of the persons being tested first had his blood pressure checked. This was to avoid any possible mishaps should anyone be suffering unknowingly from high blood pressure. Examiner John Harrison reported that the community had proved to be quite average with results they have experienced overall. “However”, he cautioned “the average results have shown a below fitness peak”. Height, weight and girth were carefully measured. The percentage of body fat was taken with skin fold caliphers to determine exactly how much extra body fat one might be carrying around. Further tests included pressing a hand grip dynometer with each hand in SIDES ?1” HINDS ,‘1“ LOINS >1” SIDES OF ■— II — --------------------------— t 'J BOYS BEST — Boys proved to be the top speakers at the senior division Public Speaking Contest at East Williams Public School last Friday. Persons being tested each worked at his own endurance rate and only a couple of tests demanded exertion. Sitting on a mat each par ticipant was asked to reach as far as possible in the direction of his toes to test flexibility. Then the number of sit ups completedin a one minute period were counted. The final test was done to brisk music. Each was asked to climb a set of three steps and descend again to the music while an electro cardiograph was taken of his heart beat. The print off from the electro cardiograph is forwarded to a heart specialist in London and the results returned later to the individual being tested. The last half hour of the program involved an analysis of the diet and recommendations given. In conclusion the participant received an evaluation report and an exercise program based on his physical assessment to help improve his physical con dition where necessary. C. HARRY RODER, D.C.
