T-A photo It w U' ■ * Fail to make playoffs Jets get resounding win over Kings Times-Advocqte, February 14, 1979 Zurich takes crown wins over Monkton The southern division of the Western Ontario Athletic Association pee wee *D’ tournament was won Saturday night by Zurich. The Zurich youngsters defeated Monkton in two games at the Huron Park arena by scores of 6-0 and 5- 2. Saturday’s games were the windup to a tournament the previous Sunday when Monkton was unableto com­ pete because of bad weather. Captain Dean Armstrong scored three times all on un­ assisted efforts to lead his club to the first 6-0 win over Monkton. Rick Kuepfer was next in line in the scoring depart­ ment with two goals. One came on a solo dash and the other on a pass from Darcy Martin. The other Zurich score came from the stick of Derek McKinnon with the assist going to Dean Armstrong. On the final contest, most of the scoring came in the first period with Zurich tak­ ing a 3-2 lead. Dennis McEwen put Monkton into a quick 1-0 lead but it took Zurich only a minute to even matters as Dan Creces hit on a three- way effort with Rick Kuepfer and Darcy Martin. With three minutes left, Rick Kuepfer scored on an individual effort only to have Jeff Hulley reply for Monkton. Mark Boogemans gave Zurich a 3-2 edge with 54 seconds remaining. Assisting were Rick Kuepfer ana Darcy Martin. Only one goal was registered in each of the se­ cond and third periods as both clubs began to tire. Doug Schade was the se­ cond period marksman with the passing help provided by Dean Armstrong and Derek McKinnon. Late in the third period, Dan Creces cashed in a pass from Darcy Martin to com­ plete the Zurich scoring. On London Gardens ice, the Jets turned in one of their best efforts of the season as they trounced the London Kings by a score of 10-1. It was their only win of the week as they lost 9-5 to the Stratford Perths, Wednes­ day and were on the short end of a 7-3 count to the Woodstock Royals in Ilder- ton Sunday afternoon. The only action for the Jets this week is Friday night when the London Kings come into Ilderton for a return contest. Game time is 8:15 p.m. One goal periods Against Woodstock Sun­ day afternoon the Jets could score only one goal in each period. Ed Parkinson was the first period marksman on a three-way effort with cap­ tain Barry Baynham and Brian Murphy while Lucan Irish junior graduate Randy Kraul registered in the mid­ dle frame with passing h^lp frorr?'sChuck Robbins arid Jamie Robb. The third period L-I score came from the stick of Bruce Reddick with the assist going to JamieRobb. Ray Tilley was the top goal getter for the Royals with one successful shot in each period. Scoring in single fashion were playing coach Steve DeGurse, Bob Gloin, Ken Russell and Dave Steffens. two assists in the final surge of scoring and single assists were added by Barry Baynham, Jim Pinnegar, Bruce Reddick, Ian McTavish and Chuck Rob­ bins. In London Thursday night most of the scoring came in the last half of the game. The Jets led 1-0 after the first 20 minutes of play and were leading by only a 3-1 count at the halfway mark of the second stanza. The only first period scor­ ing came at 13:54 on a successful Jets power play attempt. Bruce Reddick hit the mark with assists going to Bruce Reddick and Barry Baynham. Jamie Robb made it 2-0 at 8:05 of the second period on passes from Steve Proctor and Jim Pinnegar. Only 24 seconds later Ken Murray of the Kings beat Lome Daer in the L-I net for the only time of the night. The Kings were shorthanded at the time. The Jets were able to take advantage of the same power play situation when Ian McTavish scored at 9:06 on a play originated by Ran­ dy Kraul and Bill White. The Jets added two more goals before the second period was completed to take a 5-1 edge on the scoreboard. Bill White registered at 12:58 with assists going to Bruce Reddick and Rick Banks and. Barry .Baynham counted, with.Ian, McTavish, , ^.v, and Dave Revington on and came as Jhe stole the another power play. The Jets were able to score five times in the final period and the scoring was well spread. Steve Proctor, Jamie Robb, Bill White, Jim Pinnegar and Ed Parkinson were the marksmen. The latter’s goal came when a London power play attempt backfired. Bob Harrison and Dave Ferrede each scored their second goals of the game in the final 20 minutes of play for the Perths. The Jets were able to skate to the first intermis­ sion with a 2-1 lead as Steve Proctor converted passes from Brian Dundas and Ian McTavish and Barry Baynham registered with passing assistance from Ed Parkinson. Ed Parkinson took care of the balance of the Jets scor­ ing. The Itchy Niters scored a 3-2 win over the CB’ers Friday night while the Doublers were blanked 5-0 bu Out of Space. The Itchy Niters now lead the standing with 68 points, three more than the second place Doublers.r FOR INFORMATION . In a Wednesday tour­ nament in Exeter, the South Huron club defeated Madill of Wingham 15-12, 15-9 and 15-9, defeated Seaforth 15-1, 15-3, 15-7 and 15-3 but lost to Goderich by scores of 6-15 and 3-15. Leading the SH girls were Jill Tuckey, Karen McAllister, Ann Dearing and Lisa Stretton. In a Saturday tourney in Ingersoll, Karen McAllister, Ann Dearing, Deb Horner ' and Jill Tuckey led SH to seven victories in 10 games. They swept past Arthur Vooden of St. Thomas 15-5 and 15-13 and Dorchester 15-6 and 15-13.
