Mr. & Mrs. Joe Durand and family visited Tuesday with Mr. & Mrs, Jim Morley. Mr. & Mrs. George Prest spent a couple of days during last week in Toronto. The congregation of St. Mary’s Church, Brinsley held their annual meeting, Sunday, January 28, after the regular service. A, pot­ luck lunch preceded the meeting which was chaired by the Rev. John Latham. Church wardens elected for the coming year are Alan Wright and Glenn Hodgins. The new superintendent is Mrs. Jim Rowe. Mr. & Mrs. Harvey Morley dined Saturday evening with Mr. & Mrs. Earl Lewis, Brinsley United Church service was cancelled Sunday due to the road conditions. This meeting was to plan this year’s campaign activities. Tentative arrangements were made for a euchre early in March, to be held in St. Patrick’s School, Lucan, ‘with the possibility of . providing bus transportation from Granton and Lucan to the school. Further details will appear in this paper at a later date. Campaign chairman Mrs. Dean Gibson and president Len Maslen gave a very informative report on their attendance at a recent Campaign Conference in Toronto, the slogan this year is “It’s up to you”. Mrs. Elmer Summers Education Chairman was also full of enthusiasm after attending the Cancer Education Conference held in Toronto last fall, and is anxious to share this terrific learning experience with the general public. Mrs. Al. Cocquyt, public relations representative for the Cancer Society and Mrs. Robert Harloff Co-chairman of the Cancer Education Committee, have agreed with Mrs. Summers to form a team and would appreciate being asked to speak at different organization meetings. It was announced that starting Monday evening in Bryanston United Church a series of lectures, and discussions, will be held endeavouring to make the Biblical Teaching Revelant for Today’s Life Style. Excellent topics and leaders have been selected. Crediton 4-H news The first meeting of the new Granton 4H “Essential Edibles” was held at the home of leader Mrs. Michael O’Shea, Monday evening. The meeting opened with the 4H Pledge, followed by the election of officers of president Shelley Egan, vice-president Cathy Cocquyt, with a rotating secretary for each meeting. Shelly Egan was chosen as secretary and press reporter for this gathering. It was decided to leave the discussion on a name for the club until the next meeting. The members will be working with the metric system of measuring the ingredients. Leader Mrs. St. Dennis gave each girl a members record book while Mrs. O’Shea explained the details of the club and discussed the use of the record books, and also ex­ plained what the senior members could do for an extra project. The girls made Metric Crispy Granola mixture, each member contributed by measuring different quantities by metric measure. Rosanne St. Dennis ‘ prepared the Granola, while Rosemary Giesson read the directions. As this was baking Mrs. Group (2) Group (2) met at the home of lader Mrs. Jack Noon, Saturday. Following the repeating of the 4H Pledge, everyone introduced themselves. Three new members were welcomed Janice Gricken, Teresa McCarthy and Rhonda Mills. Elected officers and committee members were president Susan Noon, vice- president Ann Garrett; rotating secretary and press reporter for this meeting Brenda Tomlin. Skit com­ mittee for Achievement Day, Shanon Fiedoec, Ann Garrett, Bonnie Harloff and Maria Vanderminnen. The title of the skit to be “Your lunch is terrific”. Happy Gang The Happy Gang met the United Church Wed­ nesday afternoon for their January meeting with Mrs. Chas. Gowan presiding, following the business a sing­ song consisting of Scotch at songs was enjoyed, led by Mrs. Elmer Summers with Mrs. Gowan at the piano. Mrs. James Kerr a native of Scotland gave a very informative talk on the life of Robbie Burns. It was par­ ticularly interesting to hear, about his early life from a child to his later success as a poet. The remainder of the afternoon was spent playing euchre and crokinole. Those with birthdays in December and Jarfuary and having their names on the birthday cake were the following members Edna Westman, Wilda Middleton, Margaret Elliott and Rev. Elwood Morden. Six members of the United Church Women attended the Huron Perth Presbyterial at Exeter United Church, Tuesday. They were Mrs. Helen Ratz, Mrs. Evelyn Pickering, Mrs. Irene Fink- beiner, Miss Nola Faist, Mrs. Jeanette Lamport and Miss Ella Morlock. Over 400 women listened to Mr. and Mrs. Philipe McGary in the forenoon and Mrs. Katharine Hockin in the afternoon session. World Day of Prayer March 2 in the Granton United Church, Church news St. Thomas Anglican Church cancelled it’s service Sunday morning, owing to the bad weather conditions.
