Gary Davidson told this newspaper his department has been reviewing the ob jections received at a public meeting held in October and may be ready to present its findings in February to Hay council. Once first reading has been given, council could withhold second and third readings for a period of time to see if the plan was workable Davidson said. When the plan has receiv ed the township’s approval, the approvals by the county and the ministry of housing could be gained in as little as two months. The plan has been in the works for almost two years with a series of public meetings held in the fall of 1977 and the final public meeting held in October of this past year. The purpose of the plan is to define the land usages in the township and to restrict the mixing of the various uses. Hay Reeve Jack Tinney said council has given little thought to the plan since the October meeting but he did say the township would meet with those individuals who had objections to the plan with a meeting taking place possibly in four to six weeks. When asked if the township would withhold se cond and third readings for a period of time, Tinney said council had discussed the various alternatives open but that no decision had been made. He said the secondary plan was for the people and that their feelings would definitely be taken into con sideration. JEFFREY BROS. LTD. During these storm con ditions people will call the OPP Office and ask what the road conditions are like. If we have the information we tell the people of the severity of the storm, such as visibility — poor to nil, roads drifting badly etc. The response is usually, "Oh well, I have to go anyway, thanks.’’ Does this make sense? We don’t think so especially when we get another call to investigate the accident this person gets involved in due to the weather after he has been told. In storms, since it is senseless to be on the roads, the O.P.P. only go on the roads in emergencies if we can get through. We don’t often know what the local conditions are, let alone distant road conditions. Our telephone lines are con stantly busy with callers wanting to know how poor the conditions are even though they figure on going anyway. People who do need help find it difficult to get through on the phone for those reasons. Please do not call the OPP for road and weather con ditions, call Goderich Weather Station 524-9331 or Ministry of Transportation and Communications, Stratford 271-3550. (MTC Stratford get up dated road and weather reports constantly from all over Werstern Ontario) Thank you. ’ ‘ J.J. DonatesSgt', for R. W. WILSON, Prov. Const. Poker rally successful Hopes were generally fulfilled this week when the "replacement” for the an nual Crippled Kids’ week end at Pineridge Chalet showed a good profit. A “Bunnirama and Poker Rally” staged by the Pineridge Snowmobile Club resulted in about $2,000 in pledges for the participants. These proceeds will be turned over to crippled children. The event was held Saturday at the chalet and attracted between 40 and 50 snowmobilers, some of whom also were rewarded for their efforts by winning cash awards donated by Hensall Motors. Jamie Armstrong, Chatham, was the top winner in the adult section of the poker rally and took home $75. Jerry Wiliert of Hensall placed second and won a Polaroid from Whiting’s Warehouse and the third and fourth place finishers received mirrors donated by Labatt’s. The winners were Bill Perry, Exeter, and Bernice Wyatt, London. In the children’s class, Mike Jorgensen, Hensall, took top prize of $25, with Kevin Feehan, Sarnia, and Stephanie Monk, Lambeth, placing second and third respectively. The fourth prize winner for $5 was this year’s Tammy, Lisa Campbell, London. Justice of the Peace Douglas Wedlake presided in Exeter court last Tuesday, hearing a variety of liquor and driving charges. She was fined $108 or 11 days and was given 15 days in which to pay. Damage in the accident was $1,700. John Charles Warren, London, paid the top speeding fine of $99.75 or 10 days for a rate of speed of 103 in a 60 km zone. Others paying speeding fines were Clifford H. Knip, R.R. 2 Lucan $33 for a speed of 70 in a 50 zone; and Kelvin E. Masnica, Centralia, $40.50 for a speed of 105 in a 80 zone.
