We believe that a more democratic process is ex tremely important in arriv ing at a conclusion that will be acceptable to the majori- ty of ratepayers. TEMPLEMAN Mr. & Mrs. Bill Binning held a family dinner with about 30 present, Saturday evening in the lounge of the Senior Citizens home in Mitchell, honouring Ken McKellar (Mrs. Binning’s father) on his 90th birthday. Gordon Houghton, Mr. McKellar’s namesake and former neighbour was master of ceremonies for the evening. On Sunday af ternoon open house for the- residence of the home was held when birthday cake and ice-cream was served. Mr. & Mrs. John Tem pleman visited Sunday with Mr. & Mrs. Lloyd Miller. Miss Frances Scott, London spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Gordon Scott. Old neighbours of Mr. & Mrs. Alf Ross gathered at their new home in Seaforth recently to wish them well and presented them with a wall clock. Grant was presented with a reading lamp. We un derstand that the Ontario Government is actively pur suing such alternatives for presentation within the com ing year, hopefully. In the least, we believe our local municipalities should post pone any action on annexa tion until one or more alter natives becomes available for consideration. Your committee is developing some suggestions of its own for consideration of boundary adjustments, suggestions that would involve more local input and control over the outcome. When our proposals are ready, we will present them for your con sideration. In the meantime, we urge the Association to adopt the following resolu tion for forwarding to both municipalities, and to the media for consideration by all taxpayers involved: WHEREAS an annexation hearing before the Ontario Municipal Board, according to recent experience, may involve extensive legal and consulting costs which must be bourne by local tax payers; could generate lasting bitterness and divi sion within the general com munity; and may well result in a decision that would not reflect the considered view of the community at large; THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Southcott Pines Park Association, on behalf of the property owners it represents, strongly urges the Councils of the Village of Grand Bend and the Township of Bosan- quet to avoid and forego any annexation application until mutual discussion between the related communities and ratepayers’ associations have exhausted all possibilities for mutual agreement and at least until the Ontario Government reveals what alternative processes for boundary ad- justment may be available in the future.
