In a December meeting
between the municipalities a
consensus could not be
arrived on how Van
Wieren’s salary could be
split up.
At the meeting it was
decided to continue the ex
isting arrangement for
another year with each
municipality looking after
its financial arrangements
with Van Wieren,
Under the existing agree
ment between Van Wieren
and Hensall, the village paid
approximately $1,000 last
year while under the new
arrangement the figure
would have been $1,300.
Van Wieren said the
salary arrangement would
allow the village to be better
protected.
In his report, Van Wieren
said permits totalling $247,-
246 had been issued in 1978.
Slowly but surely, the
village is making progress
on the Richmond street
drain with the ministry of
transportation and com
munications finally signing
the drain petition six months
after it was initiated by the
village.
The drain which has been
in the works for a number of
years, will run on Richmond
Street from Wellington to
Highway 4 and along
Highway 4 to the southerly
limits of town.
While there has been no
firm cost set, it’s estimated
the village’s share could be
$65,000.
Reeve Harold Knight
stated “I don’t know of
anything that’s been more
trying,” and said the drain
was really more important
than the sanitary sewers.
In other business, council:

installation of lights at the
