PRODUCE group discussed different types of frozen, canned and dried fruits and how to use them. Different fruits were assigned to each member for achievement day. The Hensall Unit 3 4-H Club, the Born of Plenty, held their third meeting on October 4 at Janet Bilcke's house at 7 pm, Thegroup discussed ,frozen, canned and dried fruits and their uses and learned several new measuring techniques. Leaders, Betty Beer and Janet Bileke demonstrated the recipe peach layer dessert, which was the snack for the evening, served with hot tea and hot chocolate. Mr. & Mrs. Harold Parker were weekend visitors with Cpl. Doug Wein, R.C,M.P., Mrs. Wein and David in Ottawa. Mrs, Irma Lowry, Grand Bend spent Thanksgiving at the home of her son-in-law and daughter Mr. & Mrs. Jim Hyde with Lisa and Jacqueline. Mr. & Mrs. Gerrard O'Rourke, Ottawa spent Thanksgiving with the latter's parents Mr. & Mrs. Alex Munn. Rev. Fox of Huron College conducted Thanksgiving service in Carmel Presbyterian Church on Sunday. Miss Brenda Pepper presided at the organ. Bibles, Diplomas and seals were presented to Sunday School students by Mrs. Clarence Volland, The Gideon's will be in charge of the services next Sunday. Miss Dorothy Farquhar, Toronto spent Thanksgiving with her mother Mrs. Emma Farquhar. Jeff Raeburn, Hamilton spent Thanksgiving weekend with his parents Mr. & Mrs. Robert Raeburn, Mr. & Mrs. James Sangster and Brad spent Thanksgiving with Mr. & Mrs, Ralph Holland, Gwen and Michael in Clinton. Thanksgiving Sunday was observed at the Hensall United Church on October 9 with Rev. Don Beck in the pulpit and Mrs. John Turkheim at the organ. The church was beautifully decorated with flowers, fruits and vegetables. Mr. & Mrs. Dan Dobbs, Lynne, Paul and Joan of Seaforth en- joyed Thanksgiving dinner with the latter's parents Mr, & Mrs. Sim Roobol, Margaret Fuss has been visiting with her mother, Mrs. Harry Fuss, for the past month and has now returned to her home in Honolulu, Hawaii. Elizabeth Volland, who has been a patient in Exeter Hospital has returned to her home with Rachael Schwalm. Mr. & Mrs. John Batten, Mr. Ralph Batten of Elimville, Mr. & Mrs. Ken Kadey of Huron Park, Mrs. Peck, Hensall and Mrs. Hazel Coutts, Seaforth were welcomed to Huronview at Monday's program. Elsie Henderson, Norman Speir and Jerry Collins provided the old • tyme music and helped to lead the sing-a-long. The program for Family Night was arranged by Mrs. McQuaid of Seaforth and announced by Mrs, Bicknell. The McQuaid sisters Madonna Ann Marie and Carol Ann entertained with violin solos and trios as well as step dancing accompanied by Mrs. McQuaid and Nelson Howe of Staffa. Mr. & Mrs, David Passmore, Tom and Jon of Thames Road were supper guests with Mr. & Mrs. Hans Gerstenkorn and family for Thanksgiving. Sam Oes"ch celebrated his 84th birthday on Tuesday, October 4. To help him celebrate he had visitors -- Mr. & Mrs. Ray IVIeNull and family from Fergus, Paul Flaxbard and friend from Toronto,. Mr. & Mrs, Ross Cooper and family from Ingersoll, Mr. & Mrs. Earl Flaxbard and Ruth Ann from Zurich, and Mr. & Mrs. Clarence Waddell and Sandra of Hensall. Andrew Mason has been visiting with his grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. John Skea, for the past week. On Sunday, his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Randy Mason of Huron Park, visited and Andrew returned home. Mrs. Ken Elder and Mrs. Bob Cook led the devotional based on the theme of love and sharing. Elaine Townshend, the speaker, told of her personal life as a handicapped person, of the founding of A.L.P.H.A., its aims and achievements. It was decided to accept an invitation to put on a birthday party at the Bluewater Rest Home in November. Unit 2 will be in charge. A donation of $100 was voted to the Hensall arena fund. It was announced that a bale would be packed for Angola on October 25, as well as the usual one to London. It was also decided to sell United Church calendars again this year at a charge of $1.25. Enrichment day will be held at Centralia United Church on October 18, when workshops on committee work will be held. Mrs. C. Christie had attended the tenth annual Westminster weekend and gave an account of the inspiration and help she had received. Unit 2 of Hensall United Church Women will meet this month on Monday, October 17, instead of the usual date. Eight girls showed labels or samples of processed fruit for the roll call for the third meeting of the Apple Dumpling Gang Hensall Unit 1 4-H Club at the home of Dianne Gerstenkorn on Tuesday, October 4. Discussion for the evening was "Fruit the year round" which includes fresh, frozen or dried. Starr Jesney and Brenda Pepper helped the leaders, demonstrate the making of raspberry bavarian cream and apricot fluff. The raspberry cream is a jello salad which also could be served with whipped cream as a dessert, The apricot fluff is a hot dessert which was very tasty. Plans for achievement day were discussed, with each girl selecting the name of a fruit with which she must make a dessert. One serving of this dessert must be taken to achievement day.
