SUMMERS About 45 children attended the Vacation Bible School at the United Church from July 25 to 29th. The attendance was down slightly from last year owing to some of the children who were taking swimming lessons, However a good program was prepared under the leadership of Mrs. Evelyn Brown. Each morning an open session was held with Rev. Elwood Morden in charge, this was usually a Bible story or sermonette, then the children went to various craft, music or sports classes, The community of Gran ton and area would like to extend their appreciation to all who have helped to make this. project a success suchas Rev.Morden,for religious instruction, Mrs. Evelyn Brown for her efficient leadership, Mrs. Ann Bryan for Music Instruction, to Mrs. April Bryan and Mrs. Florence Metters for leadership in craft classes and those in charge of sports Mrs. Nancy Marshall, Mrs. Judy Sleeper and David Brown.. The parade was fantastic with imagination and talent displayed in each float. Miss Jean Riddell has just returned forom spending three weeks at Armstrong North -of Thunder Bay where she attended and Outreach School for Survival situated in a solid evergreen forest. theWilderness, this was oresL The program consisted of courses in Rock Climbing, Canoeing, portaging and crossing rope bridges. There were 80 students taking the course, which would give them the grounding for missionary or Social Work among the Indians and Eskimos and help them to survive in rough Terrain. Jean said they were given a three-day survival test and left alone on an Island with a fishing rod, -jack-knife and matches. Jean said she ate mostly blue berries. Jean is at present the Home Economist for Brant County but is expecting a tran- sfer soon. Miss Marion Herbert and Miss Helen Herbert spent last week visiting Miss Rona Hickey of Toronto, and Miss Hickey has returned with them to have a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth. Hodgins and family. A "mix and meet" smorgasbord luncheon was enjoyed, the tables were laden with a great variety of delicious foods. Highlights of the afternoon program was, the presentation of the W.I.scholarship to Miss Cathy McVicar of West Newbury by Mrs. Emerson Stanley F.W.I.O. representative, a report on the Tweedsmuir History, a candle lighting ceremony in connection with the 80th anniversary celebrations, and three skits put on by the branch members responsible for the en- tertainment. South Lobo presented a skit on the Rally theme "Bouquets or Brickbats" and Cloverdale on the 80th Anniversary. The last item on the program was a very special event the cutting of a decorated cake with the W.I. Emblem in the centre and 80th Anniversary, by 'Mrs. George Wilson of Granton W.I. who has been an active member of the Institute in branch and district level for 36 years, editor lof "Northern Lights" a publication on the W.I. in the !North West Territories, and , editor' oft he FederatediNews until her retirement last year owing to ill health. Each member present was served cake and fruit punch. The cake was made and decorated by Mrs, Holland of Clandeboye. This occasion will leave some very pleasant memories for all who were present that day. Huron County 4-H club members will be hosting eleven 4- H Club members and their chaperones from Butler County, Ohio, on a 4-H, Exchange programme during the week of August 6 to August 13. The Ohio delegates are plan- ning to arrive by bus in Saturday, August 6, at 5:00 p.m. at the Clinton arena, where they will meet their Huron hosts. The Ohio delegates are completing the last half of a 4-H Exchange with the Huron group who previously visited Butler County during the last part of June. During their stay in Huron County, the 4-H Youth Council have set several activities for the Ohio delegates.
